  phase 1 172
i`ve been readin alot about the homemade maxogen which i`m gonna attempt with my phase 1 172 but i was wondering if theres any way of creating a cold air feed 4 the front on the air box aswell as the 2 going off 2 the right and wud it bring any cooler air at all?

cheers

doug - i bought one of the aluminium pipes from halfrods, and ive run it front the front of my airbox down next to the battery and to the bottom right of the bumper...

i did have it going to the left hand grill, but it got s**t loads of heat soak when the engine was warm, i can tell a bit now i have moved it that it pulls a bit better, ive got a k&n panel filter aswell though.

^thats assuming you dont have an IK!

i removed the acoustic valve then ran a feed from the lowergrill up and behind the headlight and stright into the hole left from the acoustic V. basicly same as what you want to do (see grill pic (bit small i know)

Hi, I have done this on My Mk1 172, will post up some pics later. Have used 2 70mm feeds in place of the standard ones. Sounds miles better and more responsive.

Yea, I have a K&N panel filter as well mate. The only reason I ask is because I have a 75mm Pipercross cold air feed running to my box, going to where the original pipe was located and I feel the filter would work much better if it can get cooler air into it, so if you improve the cold air feed, the better increases (if any) you will get?

go on the auto performance website and look at the cap feeds, they absorb less heat especially instead of the alluminium 1s

is the phase 2 engine layout simila 2 the phase 1 cuz the radiator blocks any direct air thru the top grill! i was hopin 2 make some kind of direct feed here but i guess the best option is the lower grill! do the lower grill feeds go close to the radiator pipe that runs below the air box (in a phase 1 172)
