colour coding my new splitter...?

  53' 172 Cup
does anyone have any pics of a Cup with mondial blue splitter...im thinking of cc mine to match the car - just not sure if its a good idea cos my old one (which is now in 3 pieces!) did have scuffs underneath and im guessing stone chips could be a problem...

stone chips will be a major problem. it will chip and it will flake. will look a right mess unless you drive like miss daisy everywhere

also what is the procedure - guessing id have to rub down the plastic, prime (white or grey?) then main colour then laquer... can sum1 give me some advice on this. Cheers!

aint long been painted or repainted then ;)

i suppose you could put extra laquer on, but tbh chipping is inevitible, that low down anyway

I'm gonna do mine sometime in the future , when i get time . But i'm gonna do mine black with plenty of lacquer on it . As said above you do run the risk of lots of chips but at the end of the day its only just under the front bumper and that doesn't get severely chipped so its worth the risk i think . Plus it stops it going white from polish / wax ;)

Good guide by the way :)

yeh excellent guide. is there specific primer for plastic? also does it make a big difference wot colour is used - i would have thought a white undercoat will give a better finish with a light blue basecoat? also the splitter is very textured so should it be rubbed down loads or just primed more?

just use normal primer. possibly use plastic primer before your normal primer as it might help stop the flaking.

completely upto you how you de-texture it. either rub it down smooth then prime, or just build up loads of primer then paint.

ide use a coloured primer, if it does get chipped it will be less noticeable than bright white specs
