Computer help

Morning all,

I up[graded my pc with an asrock motherboard, c2d cpu and 1gb ram. Kept the same harddrive but obviously windows is having none of it. In the recover console (Because i simply cant lose hard drive data) after it asked for admin password (There is none?) i press enter and it just comes up the the c:\windows comand.

What do i do to recover windows after that?

in the meantime can you put the hard drive into another machine to back the files up

You could boot up from windows and attempt to use the repair feature, this may get it back up and running and allow you to backup your files to dvd etc

You definatly want to format though to get the best from the new hardware

Adding a second hard drive is dead easy, its 2 cables, the IDE and the power cable.

Also each device on either IDE channel needs to be set to master or slave using the little switches on the back of each device

^^ It's the second R option by the way, not the first one you will see.

You should be able to put the hard drive in to someone elses pc as a slave hard drive then copy on to their hard drive all your files.

Just went and bought a 160gb Sata from pc world, ill connect up the old hard drive another time. Another question though...

When setting up window with the new hard drive I partitioned 70gb for drive c and assumed a drive d would appear with the rest. but it doesn't. how do i go about correcting this?

Just do an Install repair, this is usually caused by different Chipsets.

As has been said second R not the first. Should work fine, just make sure you have your Windows serial handy.

You need to go into

Control Panel
Administrative tools
Computer Management
Disk Management

then format the remainder of Disk 0
