Cone Filter

I know everyone will tell me to stick with the standard filter but to be honest for at least a little while I want a nice induction sound on my Clio 182. What is best between the K&N and Pipercross range? Or is there something else you’d recommend all together (other than standard lol)

Thanks,

Matt

take the acoustic valve off the standard airbox mate an fit a k&n or similar panel filter . i fitted a k&n cone an hated the sound , was too loud an chavvy , all imo of course , the airbox with the acoustic valve removed is just about right id say :)

Just pull the feed off from the side of the air box will do the same job as removing the valve!

Or get the ktec induction kit as it sounds superb and doesn't loose power as far as I'm aware.

Or make you own ktec style one for much less...

I used this filter...

and this 70ml 90 degree bend...

Does that just attached to the original pipe that goes into the normal airbox? Then with 2 jubilee clips?

Yes mate, its the standard hose from the tb to the alloy bend, all you need is the alloy bend and filter, i think you get a jubalee clip with the filter, so you shouldnt need an extra clip either.

Hth, Tom.

Liam how did you secure the filter mate, cannot see your bloody thread about it!

The filter sits snug behind the battery and fuse box, it doesnt need a bracket as the alloy bend is sturdy enough, it doesnt budge where its sat :)

Is the KTR one going to be massively different? This works out about £100 cheaper.

No idea, I'm just going on what I have, I did briefly try a home-made variant but didn't find it as noisy.

General consensus is that if you're going to make a home-made one, don't cheap-out on the filter and actually get a decent one.

Is the Pipercross not very good quality then? If not, what would you recommend?

The pipercross one i have is good quality mate, foam is foam, you are mainly paying for the silicone hose with the ktec one, just my opinion.

Also ktec sell pipercross filters so they cant be that bad...

Thanks for the reply Arcitc, Was thinking of making a home made induction set up!

Just finished measuring mine all up and test fitted it. Im just trying to decide on what filter to get, mine is slightly different to the pics above though as I've used 2 silicone hoses, with a aluminum joiner inbetween them.
should be all fitted within next couple of days just got to call insurance company up and let them know, wonder how much a 0-2bhp gain is going to set me back lol probably more than it cost me to get all the parts

Never said Pipercross were bad, I didn't read all the posts and presume the generic "Cone Filter" title means ebay special as it usually does on here. ;)

I actually ment to quote liamc's question mate, but i quoted yours on accident somehow lol.

This one...

I just took the acoustic valve off and thinks its made a significant improvement to the sound. I am going to give making a home made one a try with the filter suggested earlier in this thread

I made a KTR copy as per artic clio with a pipercross filter(not the same one as him) and the 90 deg bend and it sounds mental on full chat, cost me about £40 all in - bargin!

Slightly cheaper than the piper cross are the ramair filters on eBay at £20 combined with a alloy elbow @ 13.40 and you have it all in for £33.40

Not sure on the ramair filters , just came across them when searching

Just make sure the fiters not too big to fit behind the battery, thats why i used the slim pipercross one and thats a tight fit.

Say I've had one of these cone filters for a few months, will it need cleaning ?

Heard they need cleaning with this K&N oil stuff ? when will I need to clean this thing if I had one ?

Cheers for the info , just compared measurements and the ramair one is 50mm wider than yours so need to get my tape measure out !

I would clean it when servicing , although if you do it annually then keep your eye on it as it will probably need doing sooner than every 12 months (I do an oil service 6k or 6 month)

I know I've only got a 1.2 16v but does the cone filter just stick on outside of throttle body and it completely replaces the current stock airbox and filter? What about the pipe that goes into the actual airbox? Do you tuck it out the way or remove it? Cheers guys.

I have just received all the parts to make the Induction Kit the same as Arctic has on the 1st page. Do I need to apply any sort of filter oil or whatever before I use it?
