Confusing Immobiliser

Does anybody know why sometimes when you lock the car it makes no noise, beeps etc.... but then every now and again when I lock the car it will make 3 successive beeps (or is it just me). I've looked in the hand book and can't see anything about it.

Really confusing me, and would like to know incase it means the immobiliser is not activating properly or something.

Alarm, not immobiliser.

And 3 beeps means that the car still thinks the ignition is on IIRC.
