Connects2 iPod OEM connector - is iPod meant to switch off?

So I just installed this, and after using it, and turn my engine off and keys out, the iPod is still charging. Is this meant to happen? I would have thought the iPod would turn off? or does it go off after a bit?

turn the ipod off manually

ipod turns off but goes into charging mode. if your woried about teh battery then disconect the ipod but i leave mines in the car charging and the battery is fine
