Considering a De-cat

Im considering a de cat for my 1.4 16v. mk2 ph2.

1.how much performance gains am i likely to get?
2. What will the noise increase be?
3. will fuel consumption go up?
4. will it shorten the life of my exhaust or cause any detrimental effects to the engine
5. if i get pulled over for an emmisons test (which i assume it will fail) what are the processes that take place? could i recieve any sort of fine becuase of this?
6. am i better off getting a De-cat pipe or getting al ond cat and smashing the insides out of it?
7. Anything else i should know?/opinions from people who have done this.....

some de-cats will pass the mot mate my mates went straight through on emmisions no prob you'd get a little moor nosie but wouldnt be to bad as for the rest i dont no sorry

thanks. im kindof hoping for a little more noise. i have no problem refitting the cat when it comes to MOT time. providing its an easy job.

Josh, nice meeting you at FCS I had a sport cat on my old 172, the reason for that choice was because of the MOT. Cost a lot more than a std decat pipe, but imho worth it for peice of mind at MOT time. Also made a big difference on performance

yeh was great to meet you mate, thanks for the plugs etc need to check the part number on those. how much am i looking at for a sport cat then? like i say if a straight through pipe it better i don't mind swapping them out come MOT time.

Hi, got a de cat for my 182 yesterday from GDI, check them out for prices etc

Went for the cheapest because - car only 2 yrs old so another year before MOT due, plus on 182s it can be switched back fairly easily at MOT time, two bolts and a clamp.

Also still using standard exhaust until funds allow a Prospeed to be fitted.

Noise - very slight increase on idle, on acceleration much more raspy but not boomy. Motorway cruising - no difference. I imagine that it will increase both with an aftermarket exhaust though.

Power increase - not sure but assume a slight increase, does help response though I noticed. (also have a panel filter helping breathing). Again, the de cat should help with an after market exhaust increase power.

Effect - on the life expectancy of your exhaust, no idea but if it does a good excuse to get a stainless steel one!! Fuel consumption, I'll let you know but seem to be accelerating more due to wanting to hear the noise at the moment.
