Coolant system issues

Im baffled by my clio!

Saturday i had drove about 40 miles and all of a sudden the the temp gauage rose like mad and stop lights came on the dash. I stopped before the lights appeared.

There was a leak what appears to be from the radiator inlet and water pissing out the system.

So i left it for 10 mins to cool down and added 2ltrs of coolant and continued. I drove a further 20 miles and 60 miles home and no problems and coolant level still the same.

Get in the car this morning temp guage all fine, get home and theres water again in the engine bay!

Now if it was a hose then it would continuously leak.
If it was the head gasket the same and oil in the header tank etc. But i just cant work out what it is!

Any ideas?

Might be worth draining the coolant, put some radweld in the radiator, while its all out, take the pipes off and check for splits and check the metal retaining clips are all there and holding on tighly. Re-fill as normal and go for a test drive.

yeh il be getting it on a ramp this afternoon but i just wondered if anybody has had problems before at all?

I had the same problem. Bottle of radweld later... No leaks

After a few minutes on my hands and needs ive identified the problem.

The radiator has cracked on just above the inlet from the engine!

Yoz possibly got a spare one. So should be fitted wednesday hopefully.

Anyone got the renault times for fitting a rad to a full fat 172?
