Is there a way to do this? I am not breaking the law as the law says you can have a back up copy.... and thats what these are.

Not true. While it's debatable whether you can make backup copies of CD's and DVD's for personal use it is strictly against the law to break/hack/disable CSS copy protection (in other words 99% of commercial dvd's)

Not that most people care.

People neither care, nor are prosecuted.. its an unenforcable and a stupid law.. we should have fair use rights.. I bought it i'll do what I like with it.. not a dig at you griff.. just the corporations..

I'm hurt....;)

You're correct in both senses mate. While in reality it is illegal (contrary to popular beleif) no one takes any notice, no one really seems bothered about enforcing it and if we're all honest we've all done/do it. The only action taken to date was against the company behind DvdXcopy in 2004 but we all know a 100 more software releases simply filled the space instead.

sorry mate, just thought it was pretty geeky knowledge which as has been mentioned before, no one cares about.

Bit of a con really - i bought the original, i want a back up copy to watch when i go on holiday as dont want to scratch/lose the original. the law is all wrong!!

isn't it like software though, you aren't actually buying the actual dvd itself really in the extortionate retail price but are buying a license to access what is on the disc?
