You'l be rubbing a long time if your polishing it back by hand, I'd probrably go up through the grades to 3000 in your case, I thought you would be using a machine, 24 hours should be fine, If its aerosol you'l be fine after 3-4 hours TBH & it'l be easier to bring back up too before its fully cured
you'll never get it 100% flat unless you have put a decent layer of laquer on. being very careful with a block in the best way with 2000 to 3000 grit. then polish up.
i wish it was easy to flat runs out . take your time with it and use a block dont bother just trying with your fingers/hand it WILL ! go through .
depending on how big the run is i sometimes start with 6/800 to really cut it down
then i leave it with a tiny little runand flat that down with 1500 so its totally smooth
then flat with 2000 to get a decent finish
followed by machine polish etc
