Cossie Killing Cup York Dragway

come on if you had a 2.0ltr 16v turbo 210bhp standard and you was going to a dragstrip day wouldnt you tinker with the boost abit?its easy enough!

and there aint many standard examples of this car about anymore

Tim0 already said it I think.......the other side was his brothers messed up attempt and he pootled the rest of the way up the strip

On another note I dont know why people are disbelieving and arguing - they should be happy that it got 14.4. Well done Tim0 - thats a fast car!!

yeah i am happy for him well done with the time its good

but youve got to be reallistic here in terms of wot a 172 can KILL

  williams and trophy

hehe i can honestly say that thats 1 cup i dont wanna race again lol

esp after the bodged start an all..........

but nice 1 on the time mate n ur bros will get better.

top day out all round

Those slips are all very well but my Honda 90 was so quick they couldnt get a reading! Infact I had done the runs and left before the machine worked it all out!¬ ;)

yeah some were quick, some werent that quick. i met TimO for first time and hes a thoroughly nice chap! he was well happy with that time (as he should be!) and its a bit crap when he posts it and he gets slated. Fair play i say, leats he went and had a go, i never saw 1 other 172 yesterday?!

Yeah AO48rs are road legal, depends if the police man that sees them wanta to pull you over ans have to explain but they are road legal. Tim

Exactly...

Where were all these other "hotshots" then?!

Well done mate. Cossies arent what they used to be. As someone said the hothatch car market has moved up a notch or two since the Cossie was conceived.

Wish I had been there but want to go to Elvington next week to watch ten of the best. Will be some stonking motors coming down with us (convoy style) so if anyone wants to pop over and say hi look out for any cars with team newcastle on them (corny but good for a laugh)

"cossies are crap top end standard"

Craggy - A Standard 2wd Saph Cossie is geared for well over 170mph.... BUT in standard trim it will never see that sort of speed LOL. Agreed standard they are poo, but no other car I know of has the easy tunability...

SoLow - "go to Elvington next week to watch ten of the best" TOTB is on 4th August (same day as Ford Fair...), must be a qualifying thingy your going to?

Tim

Okay people A few things to get straight:

I raced Timo172 on that slip - I could not get into second gear so slowed down.

Timo had raced a cossie on another slip and beat it.

Craggy owns the fastest standardish VTS in exsistance

It also was a mint day - The Clio crew seem alot more competitive (and friendly) than my old saxo lot.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Arent escort cossies just sierra cossie with escort shells? My friend stevieb was telling me the other day. Ill have to ask him about it again.....

Their top end cant be very good due to the big Handbag handle on the boot. I raced a mildy-modded one down the hogs back and was pushing him along, overtook him then he came up my arse and did the same, car came in front of us. It then moved, we both floored it, he couldnt gain on me at all. I moved over and he couldnt pass, if anything i pulled a bit. We came into some traffic and i moved back into right lane, he decided hed undertake everyone, looking thoroughly pd off. Mustve been a dog. Those extra revs of the group n ecu i had in at the time helped tho....

its just a shame that the consistency of engines arent apparent,

thats whats stopping me from buying a clio cup or a williams, id be gutted if i got a slow un.

To say the Escort Cossie is just a Sierra is completly wrong and a bit like saying a Clio is a Megan or a Laguana as they use the same parts in areas.

Simon the Escort was based on the sierra floorpan and used the saff 4x4 running gear. The engine was also based on the Sierra one. It is slightly longer than a Std Escort but shorter than a Sierra. Bit of a mongral. The whaletail does affect top speed quoted:140mph with tail / 145 without. I did see a mag artical that claimed not to get over 125mph but everyone that owned one at the time in the RSOC BB said that was rubbish. http://www.fasterfords.com/brochure_escort_cosworth.htmhttp://www.fasterfords.com/brochure_escort_cosworth.htmhttp://www.fasterfords.com/brochure_escort_cosworth.htm

Ill start thrashing my Willie:oops: again when (if) I ever get it back from Renault!:( Mine was definatly quicker after me using it for a month compared to when I bought it - my mate commented on this last week so shows how much of a difference some red-line action seems to have made - of course its now dead which could also be a side effect!
