Couple of questions about an Alpine 9861RI head unit

  Clio 182
Hi, i have just bought and fitted an 9861Ri head unit to the exsisting speakers (amps will have to come later) and have a couple of questions if anyone can advise.
1, on the setup there is this so called Bass Engine where you can alter the centre frequency and bass bandwith, do these functions only work when the hu is connected to amps or will they work with just the standard speakers, and can anyone explain what these settings actually alter in the sound and what are the ideal settings??

2, same as above but with the treble centre frequency.

The hand book dosn't seem to explain these settings very well and i am not up on Hz and kHz

Thanks in advance

It will work with just the standard 4 speaker set up.

When you add an amp (or 2) the set up menu will allow you to change the centre frequencies and cut off for the sub woofer output also.

Thanks for that, do you know what the ideal or default setting would be for the bass and treble Hz and KhZ ajustments for general music listening?

What I would do, is set it flat. ie everything at "0"

Give it a couple of days listening to various tracks then add a bit at a time till you reach a good all round sound.

The fader should always be a bit biased toward the front and the rears should just be a bit of "fill"

Bass is not directional so again it will provide "fill"

Having all the sound coming from the back is not correct, when did you last go to a gig and stand with your back to the stage ????
