Couple of Refurb Questions

Hi, thinking of doing my wheels, myself...

Firstly my car is black, i was thinking Anthracite, would it look good? Any other suggestions?

Secondly, in prep, do i sand the back of the wheel/the inside of the rim?

i never bother doing the inside/ back of the wheel as you never see that when its on the car..

anthracite would look good

Obviously you need to key the surface prior to spraying it and fill in those nicks and dents.

Yep, i have pretty bad kerb-age around the rim, with that just be able to sand it down or should i sand it a bit then filler it up

Fill it with metal filler and then sand that down to give a smooth even finish, thats how i did my OZ F1's and they turned out pretty nice.

Whats the best way to strip the old paint off of a set of Turini's?
Should the paint and lacquer be baked on ideally afterwards?
Does anyone have a paint code for the original Turini silver?
Any good refurbers in the Cumbria North Lancs area?

diasagree with the others

if youre changing the colour of your wheels you HAVE to spray the insides or they look absolutely poo.

spray the insides first and the back, let that dry overnight or whatever, then spray the fronts, but put a piece of cardboard or something inside so you dont get overspray all through the spokes and on the insides.

if youre keeping the same colour wheels, then dont bother doing the insides

I have a couple of questions , it would be much appreciated if anyone could enlighten me!

Whats the best way to strip the old paint off of a set of Turini's?

- dont need "stripping" as such. if the paint surface is ok, either give them a dry sand with something like P320/P400 or a wetflat with P800/P1000 or P1200 or if the surface is immaculate, a prep with a grey scotchbrite is good enough

Should the paint and lacquer be baked on ideally afterwards?

- completely upto you. idealls you should try paint them in a nice warm room or a warm shed/garage. you can dry off between coats with a hot air gun/hairdryer, but just be careful you dont get them too hot. i sometimes get bits of crap flying out my hot air gun when im drying off stuff, so give it a good shake and blow through the air vents first so you dont get crap in your paint/laquer. letting them cure by themselves is fine.

This thread has just cheered me up!!! Was a bit annoyed that i managed to kerb my wheels on a nice piece of sticking out kerb and seeing as so much of in inside of my wheels is visible it would be an absoloute cow to spray, but seeing as i can just do the fronts should be all cool!!1 :D:D

Quick question though (sorry to thread jack)

If i masked it all up really well would i be able to get away with just spraying the rim around the edge? I havent even slightly touched the spokes!!!

you could if theres a line to mask to, got pic of the wheel?

if theres no where to mask, you could just blow it in, but risk it flaking in future
