Yeah I had issues with that before. Anything more than .5mm away and I wasn't getting a reading, this is as close as I could get it without it touching but it seems I was ever so slightly out.
Like I said air gap anything bigger than about 1mm away from the flywheel won't get recognised and it currently has a shim under it which lifted it about 0.5mm. When I measured the distance this left me with an air gap of about 0.34mm which was ideal but clearly something isn't right as its been catching.
Thats if this is the problem, I'm not even sure the amount of damage to the sensor is enough to make it go loopy
