CPS

If the cps is catching on the flywheel when it turns will it cause damage?

currently mine is literally skimmed by the flywheel and you can see its shaved a slice off the end, would this cause a malfunction?

It's on my megane, it has a vag box conversion and I'm using a custom flywheel with a ford zetec sensor.

its been running in the base map and it cut out all of a sudden, put it on the laptop and its telling me its reading at least 9000 rpm.

nothing has moved and it was running fine it just cut out randomly. The only thing I have noticed is the slight shaving off the end of the sensor

It's not worn through the plastic, its literally either shaved a fraction of a mm off it or just rubbed it slightly.

would such little damage throw the readings off that much?n

some sensors will be fine some need to be set a certain distance from the flywheel trigger wheel.

Yeah I had issues with that before. Anything more than .5mm away and I wasn't getting a reading, this is as close as I could get it without it touching but it seems I was ever so slightly out.

Here's some pictures of the sensor...

could of damaged it to the point its giving out incorrect reading. do you have a spare that you can try for a few mins?

I just went out to buy a new one to try but I don't want that to be damaged either lol. £16 a pop could get very expensive

Like I said air gap anything bigger than about 1mm away from the flywheel won't get recognised and it currently has a shim under it which lifted it about 0.5mm. When I measured the distance this left me with an air gap of about 0.34mm which was ideal but clearly something isn't right as its been catching.

Thats if this is the problem, I'm not even sure the amount of damage to the sensor is enough to make it go loopy

Ok tired a new sensor earlier and still no joy.

anyone know why an omex 600 would give a cps reading of 9000 possibly more (the range tops out at 9k) when cranking?

You mean RPM?

Wrong settings for crank?
Do you have it setup for 60-2?

EDIT: Just read you're using a custom flywheel. I'd say you have the wrong settings in there

Bare in mind it was running fine before. The config is correct. Both the base map and flywheel are from scoff so they are compatible.

im wondering if there's damage to the ecu

Well after putting e new one in and cranking it a few times it doesn't seem like its catching. So I don't know.

this is all a bit mysterious tbh, one minute its fine the next it won't fire
