PC/Shuttle in question;

http://eu.shuttle.com/en/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-72/170_read-4105/

Will this CPU work or will i have to upgrade my bios? I've already bought it now so just waiting for delivery, if its wrong i'll send it back. If i have to flash my bios can someone give me links etc and what i'll need. i dont have a floppy disk drive.

Also whats the best AGP graphics card that will be compatible with this?

Please don't say "i think this" and "maybe that"

If you aint sure yourself please dont post. I want 100% sure answers that they'll work!

Thanks all in advance!

You will need to see how much clearance you have in the shuttle case for a graphics card

Yes it will fit in the case but you said "what's the best graphics card that will fit in the case" and that is far far far from the best card available to you.

The Nvidia 7800GS AGP is a single slot card and is probably about the best you find to fit an AGP Shuttle - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/103597

think that cards a little over kill for a shuttle? get a 6200 or 6600, much cheaper too

Why is it overkill? He asked for the best card to fit the Shuttle and that's simply what I pointed him towards.

A Shuttle's simply a small form factor PC. Doesn't mean it's only designed for basic use and there's plenty of people out there with Shuttle's that would embarass full ATX PC's.

Nvidia 7800GS May be over kill in price.
But its not overkill in graphics/ Quality. I have Nvidia 7800GS And its fantastic if your looking for the best Nvidia 7800GS is ur friend

Yeah its a good card but expensive, no offence but hes paying £30 for a proccessor so i dont think he will; be spending £200 on a VGA card

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
i'm paying £30 for a proccessor because Socket A's seem far and few. I haven't really managed to find a decent one, that was the qucikest i'd found! As far as GFX cards go, £200 probably is a waste on one compared to the spec of the PC at the moment...

200GB
512MB RAM
1GHZ Proccessor
In-built graphics :D:D:D

probably £60 tops really until i know that a good graphics card will be a good buy!

look at it this way - the more expensive it gets - the bigger the card gets!

the 7600 is relatively small but the 7800's tend to be a bit bigger - ive got a 7800 GTX Extreme and she's a big girl! (PCI-Express)

hence why i've bought a new CPU :) but i don't intend to play modern games really. Use as a media PC really and maybe a bit of CS/C&C/Solitare from time to time :D:D

@Fastwunz; I'm after a AGP

Thanks all for help!

INstalling the new CPU.

Is it just a case of remove the old one and fit the new one?

I've managed to get the old one out easily but a bit cramped for space. i've taken note how it was removed and which way it went it.

had to remove the fan and power supply :p

thanks!

Essentially yes but you'll need to apply some Artic Silver 5 or equivalent onto the HSF before the heatsink is refitted.

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
heatsink =the big silver thing that goes over the top? is artic silver 5 the stuff thats like white tac goes wrong?

  Mégane RS
cant remember if arctic silver is compatible with the duron/athlons, just get some decent thermal paste, put a bit on the processor and attatch the stupid socket a heatsink, iirc you need to use a screw driver to replace the heatsink, put something underneath where your mobo is or if you slip you will knacker the mobo

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
they're thumb screws anyway. i'll go to PC world tonight to see if they have some hopefully!

oh i rock!

CPU DONE
1GB RAM UPGRADE DONE
DVD DUAL LAYER WRITER DONE

next = graphics card.

i've installed windows 6times in 2days on 3different pc's!

don't you think its stupid how you can only use it like twice then you have to ring up and get a confirmation code thing. what do you do if u have to format it 3timess!

AND

WHEN YOU MAKE "BIG" MODS TO YOUR PC YOU HAVE TO RENEW YOUR CD KEY AGAIN WITH IN 3DAYS!!! STUPPPIDDDD

Running like a dream now. Think a faster HDD may be on the books when i can be bothered to install everything again.

Anyone know of a super fast CPU...Socket A compatible though please :)

i got a AMD 1.8ghz one at the moment as its the quickest i could find. i dont want to spend £100+ either
