Cracked my Window!!

Bleeding put luke warm water on my window this morning, as it had an inch of frozen snow on it, and way almost unscrape-able. Anyhow, no i have a hairline crack about 2 inches long on my light-weight Cup windsheild! Wonder if this comes under warranty!!!!

Ouch! Sorry to hear. When I use water, it has to be cold, straight from the tap then I spray de-icer on.

I have always used Boiling water on my windscreens and never had a problem, they are normally fairly tough!

I do this too - its very quick.. but you do have to get it just right. Too cold itll do nothing apart from freeze, too hot and itll crack stuff.

Its very good when it works tho.. heh, saves a lot of time!

I just turn the engine on, go and eat my breackfats and when i come out its nice and thawed and warm

Yeah, as i said it was luke warm, tepid at most, defo not hot, as im not totally stupid. I was shocked that such a slight about of heat could crack the window! Might just claim i came out and found it like that after it had got cold one night!

Anyone replaced a window on a cup, im guessing you have to pay more for less glass!!

Whatever the warranty situation is, get it replaced ASAP! Because the windscreen is a supporting structure, you could be going round a roundabout and suddenly it smashes in your face because of the weakness with the crack.

Sorry but putting warm water on an windscreen is just plain silly! Costly mistake! Sorry to here about it mate. How much will it cost and will they replace it with a cup windscreen or standard one?

Thats what im asking you guys! It wasnt even warm, it was luke warm, meaning that it was just off of cold, you woulldnt swim in it! It just wasnt freezing cold, just above that temp. Has anyone else replaced a Cup windscreen?

speak to y0z2a, he managed to crack his windscreen replacing his rear view mirror after a day at Santa Pod (removed it to see christmas tree)

i agree with the pouring of warm water on the windscreen, have done this ever since i passed my test (4yrs ago) and never had any problems

perhaps its the poor quality of the thinner windscreen that cannot take as much abuse as the thicker screens of other cars

i had mine replaced a while ago by Autoglass. I asked for the non-reflective windscreen over the phone but they still brought the wrong one.

I didnt bother checking if it would be under warranty, so got it replaced via the insurance co. for £50.

As above, you dont lose any no claims bonus by getting it done through the insurance company. Just feed them 50 notes and theyll replace it.

Make sure they are aware its not a normal 172 screen, its the lightweight special Cup one.

No, special used to emphasise the fact that the screen is different. This cant be turned into an argument............can it???..............

I paid lots less money to get a brilliant race fettled windscreen for my Cup, and if Autoglass turned up with a better quality, more expensive 172 one, I would feel that the integrity of my cheap focussed road weapon had been compromised.

LOL, I will bear that one in mind! Whilst being fully aware of the science I have always and probably without thinking poured boiling water over the golfs windscreen and never had a problem! It must be alot thicker than the cups!

that wont come under warrenty unless you make a big scene about it and drag the manager out - wear and tare basically. Just tell autoglass its a 172. I doubt the weight of the windscreen will make much difference on performance.

Ye, I used the gps ontop of my speedo instuments and it worked fine.
