Cracked windscreen

Da

Now this is nothing major really but today I noticed a small crack in my windscreen. It is not visible at all from the inside as it's in the dark fade bar that runs right around the glass. It is in the top corner of the drivers side and goes down from the top of the screen to a stone chip then across (still in the fader strip) to the drivers side edge of the screen.

I know I can get this replaced via my insurance with little cost to me but I don't really want to go down that route. (wrong colour UV, no air bag markings, no etchings, new gel pack etc...) so should I even be worried about it? Will a glass repair sort this out or should I just bite the bullet and get it replaced? Hmmm...? :S

cool, did you just use one of the windscreen repair companies, RAC/National Windscreens etc or other?

I used a company called Glass technology, they are often around my way weekends working outside Halfords, they charge nothing if you are fully comp.

Not sure if they are nationwide though.

I had my screen replaced through Elephant insurance.

RAC guy came to my door next day and fitted it in an hour.

Window is same spec as manafacturer with airbag markings, uv proctection, rain/light sensor (he even tested it was all working) and the little non uv square at the bottom.

£70 it cost me but no no claims lost.

Cheers for the info Chris, that was my main worry. I'm with Admiral, part of the same group and am also with RAC so I might just give them a bell.

booked in for tomorrow, not with RAC though because they had no appointments so used AutoGlass.

I must admit I was a bit dubious but as the window had a big spider style crack mark in the middle I had no choice. Driving a bit to close to a car on a country road!

When the RAC guy came, I checked the glass was the right one and mentioned does it have all the sensors and stuff. He said it did and he'd done a few RS Clios before.

Just make sure before he starts.

Hope ye get it sorted.

Yeah will be doing mate, when i spoke to them they said they can repair cracks but the guy will come with a new screen too. If it isn't the same with all the gel packs etc he wont be starting work! ;)

autoglass fitted mine, windscreen was fitted really well, had airbag markings but not a renault one... had a blue tint rather than the purple... looked better imo,

Cheers, it's all gone to pot anyway as AutoGlass don't have a direct billing system set up for Admiral and there's no way I'm paying for it then claiming it back. I will wait for a free apointment with RAC I think.
