Crank Position Sensor issue?

Clio 172 phase 2 (turbo)

My car was starting and running but was hunting when cold and a gentle throttle blip would make the revs drop, hunt then go back to normal, but improved once up to temperature.

So I changed:

Plugs
HT Leads
Coil pack
Inlet air temp sensor

Non of these improved the idle so today I changed the crank position sensor (genuine renault item) and now the car won't start at all.

Previous CPS was a pattern part that I fitted 3 or 4 years ago and no issues at all.

I recall seeing something about needing to solder in a new plug? The oem plug off the loom fits perfectly.

Uh...help!

This is the crank position sensor for the above.


I’m surprised it’s not already on the later cps as most originals failed relatively early on.

Also have you looked at the inlet manifold gaskets (if you are running the regular manifold) ? They might need renewing.

Yes mate.

The top ends been off for new catcam springs, so it's all new gaskets, belts, dephaser etc etc.

Running after bolting it back together, just hunting at idle when cold and stuttering after a gentle throttle blip

I put a new CPS on it when I turbo converted it 3 years or so ago. But, it's still on the original connector.

Just find it odd that it was running until I changed to the genuine renault cos, then nada 🤷

I'll do as you suggest and replace the connector too and take it from there.
