Crank pulley wobble

  172, BMW 650i & X5
Hi all, I have a Ph1 172. This is track only.
I have a wobble in my crank pulley at idle and have been sifting through posts to find if this is common occurrence. PAS and air con have been removed.
Could anyone shed some light on whether these pulleys are known to wobble or something more concerning. Have checked and is tight.
Any thoughts much appreciated...

Technically the cambelt wouldn't need to be touched but you run the risk of it popping off the crank, can't see why it would considering that's how it goes on but then again I'm no expert.

Just be very gentle around that area and have fun putting the aux belt back on. Such an arse ache.

This looks like i may have a rubber gone. Can this be replaced with engine in car and does anyone have a guide? Many thanks

You will need the timing all set up if you are having the pulley changed.
It's not a quick bolt on bolt off job. Once the bolt for the crank is loosened that's it the "timing is out" .

I was going to say. Being a full floating pulley system there is a potential for the timing to be knocked out upon undoing the crank pulley. I know that on Ford Duratec and Sigma engines it is recommended to retime the engine after replacing the pulley.

Getting this done next week. To add to this there is now a metallic rattle at idle after startup with crank aux pulley wobble. Disappears with a few revs and pulley straightens up. Sound definitely coming from crank pulley area
Any thoughts?

Your Dephaser pulley sounds like it's gone mate, get a screw driver and touch it against the engine mount/dephaser area while against your ear.

Great time to get it done if you're having it timed up to do the perished crank pulley.

Yep this is opposite. Very rattly at idle only when cold, this is when pulley wobbles. Any revs or running temp and no rattle. Is still pulling strong trhough valve change.
