Crank toothed pulley

I have heard of both key'd and non key'd pulleys but when I took mine off today it was key'd.

Am I right in saying this would prevent the cam belt procedure being fully followed as you can't rotate the belt with all the pulleys slackened off and is this really required?

I ended up changing the pulley to another one I had but thought I'd double check.

It will prevent the ability to correctly follow the cambelt replacement procedure yes.

do you mean you have the megane pulley with the key, or just keyways cut in?
