Creaking front suspension

  Clio 172 (03)
I own a 172 (03) with 14k on the clock. Approx 1 month ago my front suspension started creaking. I only notice it when pulling off, breaking and driving slow over speed bumps. I dont think its anything to do with the steering as it does'nt creak when turning the wheel, only when driving in a straight line. Can anyone help? Cheers Stu:S

I get a creaking noise when I turn the steering wheel, but I'm 95% confident it's the suspension top mounting bearing (the replacement part is £25 and I'll fit it when I've time). If you can do it yourself, try stripping it down - it isn't too difficult and you might see what's causing it.

Thanks, just booked the car in with Specialised Renault Services in Nuneaton. Hopefully he'll fix the problem, i'll let you know what the fault is and how he fixes it!

It could be the steering rack or cv joint. I had both fixed, plus new shocks to cure the problem

i used to have exaclty this!! Did my head in and took a while to figure it out but it was something to do with the cv joint not being attached properly. Local garage reattached it and greased it (or whatever they do) and it totally gone. No creaking.

That sounds like the drive shaft mate, mynes knakrd and im waiting to get it repaired but it makes a hell of a noise on full lock. like u said it sounds like summat is rubbing on the wheels. check the cv boot (the rubbber gaitor type thing) an see if thats got any cracks in it, if not undo it pack the shaft with grease and do it back up. Should sort it if the drive shaft aint knackered.
