Crunching into 3rd gear

  LY R27
Hi,

I have an 07 R27 and whenever i'm coming into a roundabout or tight corner at high(ish, 50-60) speed the gearbox will occasionally crunch into 3rd gear. it doesn't do this at lower road speeds.

Do i need to blip the throttle to match my engine speed with road speed? i know the heel and toe technique improves gear change but it shouldn't be necassary all the time?! :S

I'm even heel toe-ing my f-ing diesel ffs. Just a good habbit.

Mileage of the car out of interest? Consider a box oil change, but tbh it'll normally be a box rebuild before it's truely fixed.

9800k, i've tried a really basic blip of the throttle whilst having the clutch in and it seemed to help.

I was after other peoples opinions before i go back and demand a box change.

Before i had the car it was owned by a guy for a weekend car, aka trackday car and it has a 'ring sticker on the back so i've got no doubts that it has been tracked, however the owner was fastidious with the servicing so i've no worries that it has been well looked after.

980,0000 miles? Good effort!

Is it still in warranty?

If there anything like 1*2s gearboxs there all shite anyway.

There's no need to heel-toe one the road, i can do it, however imo just simple double decluching down the box will greatly reduce wear and make your driving 10 x smoother.

ah, have also tried this, this is where you push the clutch in, take car out of gear, then let the cutch back out before engaging the next gear? sometimes it works but not always.

correction its 9,800,000 miles, 9.8million miles :rasp:

not suprised the gearbox is on its way out!!

on a serious note get back to renault and demand a box rebuild,

hope you get it sorted

  Brisol my lover..
i had a new box in my 07 plate crunch in second gear, bit of a common fault on the early box which they stopped making, but i thought the R27 had the new box???

There was an issue with 3rd around that time of manufacture, they were replacing boxes under warrenty as far as I know. But an R27 should have the revised ratios without the problem, but either way get it back to renault.

Thanks for the replies, if i can go to reno and say i believe there was a problem etc then i stand a better chance of getting this resolved.

I have read through the service history and the only extra work over the normal was 4 new tyres and an ipod dock.

Thanks, yes i did and am loving it!!! we did ask for the ring badge on the dash to be removed but reno said they didn't want to wreck the dash plastics, fair enough.
The ring sticker on the back...i quite like it but i've said to the misses we have to go there to justify it being on 'our' car.

ring stickers off, and back to renault for warranty work.

why take the Ring stickers off? Renault don't care, they stuck F1 Racing Team stickers on it from new! lol

I can imagine the conversation "sorry sir, we're not repairing your car because you have the outline of a race track stuck to your car..." ;)

Leave the sticker on, take it in and let them sort it. I'm sure it'll be fixed without a second thought :)

Renault stuck Nurburgring stickers to the R26.R themselves from the factory, complete with the lap time. Does that mean none of them came with a warranty?

No but I'm pretty sure the R26R warranty would be voided if you were to use it on track ironically...

update:

1st: in answer to whether warranty is void when used on track, reno didn't say anything about the stickers, tbh i'm not sure they really care as they seem to love warranty work.

2nd: i took it for a test drive with a technician on Friday, he agreed that the g/box wasn't right so i booked it to reno for today for their own "in house" analysis. got a call from them this morning...hello Mr Timms we've taken your car for a test drive....

hang on, i thought we already did that!!! (car got a good seeing to i think!)

anyway long story short..."you'll be getting a new gear box fitted by Wednesday Mr Timms...."

Excellent!

I've been about abit, don't do that much ring road racing these days, it being two way and all that!!
