Crysis - Gaming Rig

Okay so who's planning what? If anyone is considering an upgrade just now, there's a good chance that Crysis will be a driving factor.

I'm considering a full-on upgrade to a DDR3 P35 mobo & quad-core blah blah. But, I might just leave it a year (due to my current circumstances) and then play it with one hand on the wheel at 1920x1200 etc. etc.

What are you freaks all doing? :D

Would love to upgrade for cysis, but cant afford to. Would require pretty much all new components for me to do that.

I'm hoping it will run alright on my new budget rig!

AMD 6000+, ASUS M2N-SLi mobo, 2GB RAM & 8800GTS will have to wait a month to find out. Can't afford to spunk anymore so fingers crossed

i'll probably d/l the demo and see what it is like first.

hopefully my rig will suffice...

amd 4600+ dual core thing, 2 gb ram, 8800GTS

DDR 3 is a waste of money at present as the performance is no greater than DDR 2 and the prices are just silly.

Same as Seb, my current rig should run it and if it doesnt then not to fussed. Cant afford to spend anymore money. Id be happy playing Bioshock and COD4

I know, but short of buying a combo board, what chocie does one have if building a new rig right now? Money no object, it's a DDR3 platform ;)

lol ok.

well i would just get some top spec ddr2. I have just got some OCZ Vista performance stuff and its awesome.

Yeah but I'm also planning on a new platform, so it's a tricky decision really

I need a mssively powerful processor since I intend to do a lot of CPU intensive stuff. The only question is DDR2 or 3. A combo board sounds like a good plan for the medium term (which for me is 12 months).

Yeah I can understand what your saying but the guys over on the OCC forum have like overclocked a Q6600 to over 4GHz lol and still only use DDR2, now you aint going to be much quicker than that lol

DDR3 is pointless imo, high latencies and stupid prices, best off getting some quality low latency DDR2. Also the new X38 boards are crazy prices too, the dual DDR2/DDR3 P35 boards don't perform amazingly and reports of stability issues

Rig I'm building is def gonna be a P35 DDR2 board, 4GB DDR2-800 (still running XP Pro 32 bit so will only see @3.25Gb) Nor bothering with any Vista and DX10 for a few months yet, Crysis DX9 style for moi
Waiting to see what the revised 8800GTS-640 performs like next month, got 112 shaders instead of current 96, also you can now clock the shader speed independent of core/memory
If these fly I'll get one, otherwise may get a 8800-GTX
New ATI 2900Pro and upcoming 2950Pro also an option but at 1680x1050 with high AA/AF they have a performance drop so still think I'll go 8800

Prob get a C2D E2180 or E4400 and o/c to @3.3GHz for now, extra cache and quad cores not really worth it for now

Also want a quality 22" or 24" widescreen LCD, and a new case with some top cooling, just using a Western Digital AAKS SATA drive too, def getting a gaming mouse also this time

Are these new P35 boards SLi ready?

Think for Crysis I'm going to buy a 680i and buy a second 8800GTs, should do the trick.

Being honest I dont think these next gen games are going to need much more than 2gb ram and your average CPU. Its the graphics hardware that will hold you back more than anything. Still reckon if I want to run crysis at 1920x1200 im going to have to drop a 2nd 8800GTX in.

I have just got a new rig:
Asus PK5C Motherboard
Intel E2180 overclocked to 3.2GHz
2Gb Ram DDR2
8800 GTX

Connected to a 24 inch Dell, loving it at the moment, runs Bioshock and Dirt at 1920*1200 smoothly. :)
