cup & 172 owners read here...





Ive just been out in a moded Cup. The guy is on the sales team at Bristol street at MK. Hes a very knowledgable bloke when it comes to Renaults (not your usual salesman b*llsh*t) and has his own Cup (not a company car). Anyway his had some serious mods, Renault sport ECU, hand built stainless steel exhaust (a one off cost £800), and a racing airfilter.

The result......













........well lets just say its pretty close to my v6 if not as good performance wise, and the sound, F*CKING AWSOME!!!!

If anyones interested ill try and get some more details, i asume these parts fit normal 172 as well.

Oh, and if anyones interested in buying a new Renault (from a renault dealer) his the man, excellent deals (got £2500 off my wifes new Scenic).
 


Im sure he wont mind you guys giving him a bell at work, his name is Floyd Gutherie and as i said the dealers in Milton Keynes, tel. no. 01908 318211, ask for new car sales or use the automated system. Dont bother phoning tommorrow though, its his day off!! Or alternatively come to Bedford autodrome on Friday June 27th, hell be there, with his car of course!

Well i know him pretty well (on a personal level) and hes mad on anthing Renault so im sure he wont mind people phoning him as long as they are geniunly interest!
 


the bloke from Camden used Rens was telling me about this car when i went out on a test drive with him. App he kept pestering Ren about it not being good enough untill they gave him the race ecu and told him to go away lol
 


Isnt the 172/cup very close to the V6 anyway?? Not being cynical or anything if it comes across that way?? Basically I would expect a 172 with 190 brake + to be as quick. Look at Paddys for a start (Serious).......... I wont even begin to talk about Cupsizes.... ;)
 


Yep, excelleration in v6 is not that much quicker than standard cup, but its the way it does it thats the bizz! But when it comes to braking its a different story. Brakes on v6 are muthas, ive even out braked the latest incarnation of BMWs M3.

It amazes me that people always listen to other people who say these things "if driven right" or "in the right hands". Im no Schuy but im not a bullsh*ter either!! Ill give an as honest and unbiased opinion as possible, im fully aware that the v6 isnt the be all and end all!!

Jim the guy you went out with is Floyed, his back on new car sales now!! I didnt know until he came round to see me tonight.
 


no it wasnt him, the bloke from Camden went over to get the demo cup from MK was was talking to him.

Camden werent bothered about selling me a car so i took my business elsewhere. When i first went in there to get some info on the cup i was talking to a bloke who seemed to think they came with ABS! I didnt argue and asked him some other qs that he got wrong and went on my way.

if its a proper race filter then its more than like a Green one, as theyve started to sell there motorsport filters to anyone.....you can buy em online

beware though that a proper motorsport filter wont filter as good as a road filter, they dont have to cos the engine will be bein rebuilt all the time

well, nothing was really tuned was is?

Brun, racing one, street one....no diff, it filters the air.......they dont make ones that filter less than rd ones seeing as they arent restrictive and the cup engines are not rebuilt, they are sealed unless something goes wrong.
 


Im a bit puzzled like Ben on this one. The R-sport ecu improves torque by about 5 odd %. R sport themselves recommend not using it with an IK because its programmed for a standard car, etc. etc. Unless the guys done other things to his cup, I would be very very surprised if hes gained more than 10 bhp. To me, that a very soft mod.

Nobodys done serious mods to their cup (yet..) as far as Im aware, but that should change soon, with a few maniacs on this forum finally beginning to experiment

Oh well, I guess I will dream about those throttle bodies for a while longer.

i mean come on i think wot ben is tryin to say is chip, filter , zorst tuning is bollox u aint gonna see a noticeable differance

we need cams an headwork, throttle bodies e.t.c to do the bizz

Ben, me experiment???? perish the thought ... Non Non Non, I would never ever do nuffink to my car. Im a shy blushing mod virgin.

ps. about to put the F4R head/valve debate to rest, the only way I know how... well discuss results post 21st...or maybe after the next proper outing ..... in the mean time Im remaining schtum-zippo-nada
