Seeing as the 172cup has no abs, if I was to get vented discs etc. Wouldnt it mean that the car would lock up more quickly under heavy braking? So the question is.....how can you make a cup safer in terms of braking? (excluding the usual answers of slowing down)
you can vastly improve the braking on the cups/172/182's by simply changing the pads
BUT 172/182's have the soft option of having ABS
Cups don't (i wish i had had it at oulton park !!!) its all about the organic part behind the wheel at the end of the day, (especially when driving a cup) if the organic part fails it dies, simple as that!
Sorry to hijack fella - but Fred, would it be ok just to use a set of Ferodo 2500's with the standard discs? would this be worth while.. AND, how much do you do them for?
Just to let you know, the ds2500 are a big improvement over the standard Renault pads, I've had them on my 182 for about 4 weeks now and they are great, I'm using the Brembo discs with them.
Im using the DS2500 with some standard Lockheed discs and they are spot on so far, ive done about 2000miles on road and 200 on track and the discs are just starting to show a bit of wear.
I can't recommend enough the DS2500, I've had mine on for a while now and they've bed in really well and are holding up. Add the Goodridge hoses and it's grins all round...top stuff
The onlt thing you can do about the lack of ABS is be aware of it and don't be a c**k...in short. Drive anyting hard enough and it'll lock up or get out of shape imo.
