Yep engine mount. Mine has gone several times. Really pissing me off now as I keep getting it fixed and literally a few days later it is knocking again! Group N from Rsport is £300+ which I dont think I ll stretch to.

Thats the problem. I dont usually give it much in 1st as it spins too easily. I made a concerted(sp) effort to take it easy when I picked it back up. Pretty much the first time I gave it a bit (in 2nd tho) I could hear a slight knock when coming on cam. Sounds/feels terrible!

Wasnt a big letter being prepared on behalf of all 172 drivers regarding this problem. Whatever happened to that?

I think I heared a slight knocking from mine as well last night.

Ill have to ask Rich D if he heared it before me or if ive managed to break it already within a week

Look at my thread on the ESP Traction Control. I think this is same problem i have aswell. Its definitely somethin to do with the drive mechanism as it only does it under high acceleration... its somethin to do with the torque on mine... it dont sound good

hi, mine did it to when i first bought it,but its not done it recently, had the engine mount done but that doesnt cure it,its one of them things that you have to live with,ps its the mount under the battery

we had the engine mount replaced under warranty at our last service and it cured the knocking

we found it made the same noise when reversing uphill and turning with between half and full lock applied

since being repaired its never come back again (touchwood)...oh and the car doesnt have traction ctrl either (July 02 - mk2 172)

Mine used to knock under hard acceleration all the time, But a couple of days ago i had an eibach pro spring kit fitted and since then i have been unable to re create the knocking and believe me ive tried. An explanation for this though could be that the roads are dry at the moment. I think a few other members on here have said the same thing about the eibach pro kit ;)

Since I have had my eibachs fitted it hasnt done it.. that includes a 1/4 mile session at Crail.

I think the sloppy standard suspension in addition to crappy engine mounts (I had a good look and the truly are shockinly loose) were causing too much movement of the engine, either do what someone on here suggested which was pad the engine mount out with spacers, get new engine mounts (which probably wont help for long) or try the eibach suspension route.
