Exactly. You can get 1.2 clios with xenons...... my mum wouldn't have a clue, they would just be lights to her!!!! How would she know they were a factory option on a second hand car? Same as aircon, sunroof etc. This argument about cup-packs doesnt wash imo.

Hi Maz ;)

Agreed :approve:

Although I don't think anyone on this forum would count because we all know what our car is/isn't fitted with :rasp:

Hi :) lol

I didn't know much about my car when I first bought it tbh and I didn't do any research so I could have been caught out if this was the case.

Anyone insured with Greenlight?, did you have to declare the cup packs or where they automatically covered?, i have just taken out a new policy with them and did not think to ask them about cup packs.

cant you just tell them that in the event of an accident you're happy to accept the cover for a car without cup packs etc?

As in, not insuring the extra packs cause u won't want to claim for them on the insurance... that'd be an alright idea.

Aston, unfortunatly not - it invalidates your insurance if you don't declare any non standard mods, and unfortunatly the Cup pack falls into this catagory. Could end up with nought if had a bad smash and hadn't declared it!

Sucks, but that's the law!

When I insured my car I decalred all mods that I intended to put on the car, even though some aren't on yet. I was told that if I stacked my car, the non standard wheels, and exhaust would be replaced with standard ones, but the body kit I intend to fit would not be replaced at all. I would have to cover the cost of that. However, because all mods have been declared if another party hit my car, all mods would be replaced with identical replacements. (including the body kit).

Any car that is fitted with optional extras, even at the factory, have to be declared. I do agree however that some peope may not know that their car was fitted with extras and may assume the car came like that, unfortunately though, it is the car owners responsibility to find out all they can about their car and declare everything to the best of their knowledge.

I do think it is abit of a grey area, especially when it comes to people who know nothing much about cars at all . My friend would be in a very dodgy situation if she picked up a car with added extras, she would not have a clue and would assume the car was meant to be like that as standard. This is where, in my opinion, insurance companies should have detials of all standard models of car and all their possible optional extras. They should then ask the customer if their car has any of the extras and go through the list of these with the customer. This may be a little time consuming as some peope may have to run out to their cars to check, but at least then the cars and customers would be correctly insured. I'm not quite sure how someone who knows nothing about cars could check if their car had sports suspenion though. :S

FFS cant this be locked i'm sick of reading all the do gooders going on n on and on...

IMO people with bodykits and Boing 747 spoilers should have to pay extra incase the fashion police have a go, but for cup packs it shouldn't be an issue.

This thread was done to death when the 182 came out and apart from a few people that got ripped off, everyones insurance company said that it didn't have to be declared.

When I mentioned it to my insurance I was told that if it was factory fitted extras then it didn't have to be declared. I had obviously mentioned it in the phone call but they never typed it into their system and the premium didn't go up.

When I got my bike, Kawasaki had a deal on where you got a free set of road legal carbon race exhausts. They were dealer fitted but are covered by the manufacturers warranty and have the manufacturers logo on them and don't have to be declared as they aren't a modification from the manufacturers specification because that is how it came from the manufacturer.

If Renault had halfway through a cars life start fitting them all with side airbags as standard then would you have to declare them as after all the original spec of the car when it first came out didn't have airbags? Also would you have to know whether your car was built before or after that official anouncement?

It is nonsense! A person can't reasonably be expected to know or list the slightest changes in the spec. My bro bought an Aygo that the dealer was clearing out at the end of the month at a knock down price. It was a special edition with extras on. Most of them are listed on the manufacturers website but he has those door seal protector things and I am not sure whether they are options that the dealer had fitted? Do I write to Toyota and ask them before I get the car off him and get insurance?!?!? I bet the fecking insurance guy on the phone would be "duh duh I dunno!" and Toyota would rip up my letter and bin it.

Anyway my take coming from the bike issue is that if it is covered by the warranty then it doesn't have to be declared. The insurance industry haven't got a feckin clue as they all seem to have different stories so I will see them in court if I make a claim and they try to make an issue of it.

I phoned up to declare a stealth exhaust system a while back, and was told as it didnt look different to standard it didnt have to be declared.

Nor does it have PE2's on the front. Its now shod with contis. Its not factory standard...... better ring up!!!

i do actually know of a case with Zurich refusing to pay a claim on an Audi TT because it had non factory original tyres!

it was more to do with the fact the assesor was a total prick (same bloke tied to refuse my claim!)
