The good thing is people have pretty much had all the problem so we know how to resolve most of em.. its not just a clio thing .. its a car thing and happens to even the most expensive of cars.. just look at BMWs record with the mini, the difference lies in how the dealers deal with them.
Ive hand no problem so far with my touch wood. Just over 1400 miles in 2 weeks. Take it easy till 600 miles then give it 1500 till you start mashing it, although occasionally when its been warmed up for ages one cant help but plant the foot for a bit.
Nev whats your power band like? I find that my car is really keen between 2k-3k and then between 3-5 nothing particularly exciting happens, but then when it hits 5 it really takes off and then tales off at 6350 or so. Havent red lined it yet as see no point, there is no power there. I find the best is changing fro 2nd to 3rd, thats when the 5k really powers through nicely. Mind you ive had a viper fitter for about 800 iles or so, and it growls and makes the sweetes engine sound. Its amazing how much its transformed the engine sound, i haven;t had a chance to fit the cold air piping as ive been waiting for a longer pipe, instead i got the same length so this weekend im gonna fit it and see how it feels.

I managed to stay below 3500rpm for 625 miles as per handbook, Now done 1200 in nearly 7 weeks. Have alway driven a good 15 mins before driving hard and apart from 1 time when I got giddy in 2nd I tend to limit myself to about 6000rpm-6200rpm for time being. Think Ill leave the 6500rpm territory until Ive done another 500 miles and then only when fully warmed up.
Dont know what rpm I did that time in 2nd but the dashboard change gear light came on - 2nd gear awesome !!!!!

I obeyed the running in procedure exactly, and gave in an oil and filter change at 1500 miles with some fully synthetic 5W/40. It is running sweet as a nut and has had no problems whatsoever. The car loves to be taken to the readline and there is no harshness and its easily as quick as the Civic Type R I tested before I bought my CUP.
Im loving every minute of it, it is a truly great car.

I was under the impression that using fully synthetic so early in the engines life was counter productive i.e. its too slippery to allow adequate friction for all the engine components to mate to each other?
Running in isnt as important these days - They are a lot more precise when engineering the components - thus no metal swarf to remove - highlighted by the dropping of the oil and filter change at 1000 miles.
Take it easy for a couple of hundred (itll make you feel better) - make sure it is nice and warm. Then give it some!!!

It convinced me. Not entirly sure of his idea of smaller porting as it so different to what car owners do but there is an explaination.
