cup racer sadev sequential gearboxes

  2005 Nissan Navara
They dont need rebuilding anywhere often as people think. They are alot harder wearing than std boxes....

Mine is 3 years old, been in a race car for that time, stripped twice a year for inspection, and ONLY ever had 2nd/3rd dog ring needing replacing which cost £76.

As for labour costs, if you send them to SWR it would be quite costly. if you DIY then not so...

I'm guessing your car stan* is only used on track, wounder how one would fair with normal road driving

well if his car is used only as a track car it must get ABUSED, so i reckon in a normal car it would last alot longer cos you can't flat out every gear? :)

well the sadev would be designed to be abused, but would it be designed for changing gear when not giving it the beans?

I dont know why you would fit one to a road car tbh...

Ratios arent ideal, not the smoothest thing to drive round town, quite expensive for no "gain".

Std boxes are fine for the road...

You have to remember that the "boi's on da town center strip" will try anything to improve their traffic light drags.....a sadev would gain them a distinct advantage.

sadav boxes are quite good to take to bits yourself tbh :D and actually not whiney or clunky alex :rasp:

Stan, Rednax and DanD - Thanks for your advice/opinions and serious answers. much appreciated.

ollie 1982 - if you dont have anything proper to say then dont say it maby i should have been more specific, im buying another dci clio this week and now the 172 is going to be my weekend track and ocasional road use toy to go all out on, and im either considering fitting a sequential box or selling the car and buying an ex cup racer

your attitude imo f**kin stinks considering you are an area rep which should make you a more respected member of the forum but yet i ask a serious technical question and since you dont know the answer you decide to assume i want a sadev box to race about the streets like a hooligan now apart from the fact it would make the car the ultimate "traffic light grand prix" car with short ratios, quick changes and an LSD its not really my thing

Mike1Pow, as above, if you dont have anything constructive to say, dont bother.

peace.

if you are using it as a weekend/ track toy then it should be a good modification, as said before the ones that get raced frequently last very well, so i'd say a check up/ strip down every 6 months.

and straight cut whine is awesome, have some on my mini.

be an awesome mod, apparently the cup race cars running relitavely standard engines but only weigh 900kg with a sequential box can do 0-100 in 10.5 seconds i beleive! think they top out about 120mph! lol

If you want that whine from a sequential, just get straight cut gear kit for your box and uprate all the seals and bearings and whatever else.

As stan stated you don't really need a sequential in a road car, i guess some people have them just to show off.

Pull that stick out of your arse. My tongue in cheek comment wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular in this thread.

Honestly...some people on here really can't see the lighter side.

The sequential SADEV gearstick or wot? LOL

Relax guys!

Instead of a seq. box with straight gears i'd rather have a quickstick conv.

I dont think your seeing the bigger picture here. Like you said they weigh only 900kg's. Thats one hell of a weight saving and advantage plus its not just down to the shift, its the difference in gear ratio's mainly.

If you want this for acceleration then change your stock ratio's and save yourself thousands ;)

X85's weight nigh on 1100KG's with driver and will crack 0-100mph in 10.5 seconds.

Its massively down to the shift time as well - the mechanicaly actuated Sadev ST75 on the X85 will complete an upshift in around 85ms from the point at which the drivers movement on the shifter actuates the gear cut to the point at which the cut ends and torque is reapplied. Try getting an upshift done in 85ms with a synchro H Pattern. 500MS and you're doing well.

The ST75 is a tough old box. We've got the highest mileage X85 going and so far is 14,000KM's have had 1 Set of dogs, 2 input shafts and a pinion. That's on a 24hr endurance car that takes a hell of a kicking when its out and about. The only thing that'll really wear them is poor gear cut/gear control.

Cheers

they're over £7K new IIRC, second hand is about £3K

like stan says if you send it to SWR then ££££££££££ any gearbox man could look after it no bother

heavy f*****s they are

thanks for the advice guys, so basically what sort of kit am i looking at needing the obvious bits....

box
shafts
selector

do the engine mounts need modifyed to sit lower like the cup racer ones do to fit the box in or is that only to lower the centre of gravity?

you will prpobably need the race car sub frame and solid mounts and there completly different to the road car

I can vouch for that.

You dont need any modified mounts or subframe or driveshafts with the cup-racer boxes....
The ST75 runs flange type shafts, the SDTSA as in the cups dont.

You'll need: box, lever, display, flat shift ecu (if you dont have that facility on the ecu you are running).
If your running in events for any length, I would be inclined to fit an oil cooler also.

sweet stan cheers ill look into it see if any pop up, im thinking buying a full ex cup racer might be a better option. did they do RHD ones or are they all left?

the box mounting is the same???? eh? completley different on the racers, engine and box is mounted to the subframe

i'd speak to k-tec and find out how they did it

mini-valver

talking 3.5k+ +all the bits to make it work :D

Not a f**king CHANCE! Box alone is 6k +VAT IIRC.

They are strong box's, the diffs become quite weak after a while though. SWR rebuild them for the cup racer teams but we've had endless problems with the last box they did.

ON the X85 the mount is on top the same as a normal road box so SHOULD fit standard mounts, I dont know how you'd get on flatshifting though as it's quite harsh.

Yes, ala the grpA mk1's, thats not to say they HAVE to mount to the subframe this way.

They accept standard renault front mounts as used on the renault 19's, and rear mounts as used on the R5 ;)

Mine is having custom mounts to mount to a tubular subframe, but it has been mounted in the above manner before.

Hutchies quoting how much mine cost. flat shift and display were a little etc from Geartronic. if you put the gearstick in backwords then it fits RHD

I was having a look for a phase 1 172 cup car, but couldnt find any :(

I would love a sadev box for a track day car. Even if it doesn't give much in performance its just having one and using it, flat up shifts FTW

there was an ex cup racer at santa pod he got no where near 100 mph in 10.5!!!! he ran 1/4mile in 14.8 and crossed line at 98mph! his start wasnt bad either, i have it on video somewhere
