cup simple mod gains

  172 cup
hi everyone, thinking about a few simple mods for my 172 cup. What kind of gains in terms of bhp can I expect from a enclosed induction kit, decat and an 'angel tuning' remap?

cheers for help

5-6hp ??? BHP isn't everything though low down torque will be greatly improved. I would also get angelworks matched inlets before the remap.

hey guys sorry to jump in but how much do matched inlets cost? do they do it on an exchange basis!?
Thanks

I think they are £270ish from angel works then you get £100 back once you send them yours. Probably best check out angel works website.

Keep the standard airbox, remove the acoustic valve and replace the cr@ppy intake hoses with less restrictive itmes, the lower intake needs a 50mm dia. and the side needs 60mm dia. I didn't feel much difference except low down in the rev range, however, timed/videoed runs showed that mine was a round a second faster through the gears to the ton. Doesn't sound much, but for £20 for alloy hoses, its a cheap and effective mod.

The acoustic valves doesn't do anything except cause a restriction in the intake and doesn't do anything when the engine is warm, the valve only closes when the engine is cold, presumably to help with emissions.

A remap will take advantage of the better breathing. I'd forget induction kits since the cost doesn't justify the gains, if any, unless you want noise rather than performance.

Disagree....little 'restriction' as you put it with the OE airbox and air ducts.

Matched inlets best first port of call followed by RS tuning remap.

Since the valve doesn't seem to do much when the engine has warmed, its has no other purpose other than to cause a restriction.

I agree with the match inlet and remap if you have a non RS inlet, however, that is around £500. If you have an RS inlet already, then IMO, the outlay is not worth the small gain.

cheers mate, yeah it does seem alot of money. so your sayin I could just go ahead with the remap and wouldnt need matched inlets since I have a cup?

i've had most of the above mods done ........ barring the decat , went for the sports cat and am pushing around 185bhp but getting alot more torque lower down .

I'm not sure if the Cups came with the RS inlet manifold. From what I've heard, some late 172's had them, most 182 have them and all trophies have them. You could try and feel for the lettering on the 2 middle inlets or if you can get a small camera down there like from a phone to see.

my cup didn't , but someone one recommended getting the rs inlets matched and fitted as being better than the cup inlets matched .....
