Current Cleaning Products

  Clio 197 R27 Albi
Im currently using...

-AG Body Shampoo
-AG SRP
-Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax Blue

Do you reckon I need to add a sealent to the list, maybe AG EGP?

Also I like to wash my car every week due to dirt/dust. Do I need to do the whole list again? or just a wash and Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax Blue.

All help needed please.

Thanks

Yes and no. Wax will last for a month. Then just top up the wax only. Polish every couple of months max.

  200 Gordini
Thats still a good little combo, you could add EGP for a little bit more protection for the up coming winter.

Id say keep it as it is atm and just add a layer or 2 of wax in the near future and then around october start from scratch and add the EGP into your routine

Just another quick question. Whats a glaze and what that all about? where would it be added to that list and is there any point?

  Porsche Boxster987S
you could add clay to that list and do it every 5-6months before you touch it with polish

No point in you using glaze, you will see very little difference. What you have there is the basics. If you want to move onwards and upwards you need to do so step by step.

TBH mate theres alot of products out there, its all about trial and error and personal choice.

What colour is your car?

Articic Blue. Yeah think I will stick to what i've got and maybe add AG EGP and the use of a clay bar in a few months like others have said.

I add my wax is a cloth at the mo but is there any better method for application?

I beg to differ. A glaze adds additional gloss/depth to the detail compared to polish and sealant alone IMHO, think of it along the lines of a finishing/refining polish.

take it glaze would fit in like that... Clay, Polish, GLAZE, Sealant, Wax ?

how come some people say if you use a glaze other products wont stick to it. What do they mean?

Because of the oils most sealants cant 'bond' to the glaze so they wont be durable at all.

Most people go polish > glaze > wax.

A glaze will add quite a bit of wetness to the finish, id recommend using a glaze in the summer months and something more durable during winter

Aye that's the order.

Depends on the glaze TBH, some will have a lot of oil in them and cause the sealant, usually polymer ones, not to take so basically it won't seal the paint work. Although that said you can wax straight on top of a glaze without sealing, if you so wished.

Whether you glaze or not is personal preference, like with all products you opt to use.

My thought process was glaze would be ineffective for what this gent would like to get out of the car Sy, as you've said, the protection of the sealent would be wasted.

By hand I'd actually say that a glaze would offer him better results, plus the sealant would only be a waste if he picked the wrong products. I use Poorboy's EX-P over White Diamond and have never had an issue yet with the EX-P not bonding. Probably not the best choices for his cars colouring though.

By machine though and refining with Menz FF, for example, I'd assume that a glaze would offer little to no added bonus; but that said it also wouldn't hurt.

Glazing seems to be more recommended by old schoolers from my experience, mostly due to it being about before sealants. Although with the popularity of Black Hole it looks like, at least for darker coloured car owners lol, it's making a come back.

All that said though, I'm not a pro. I just go with what I've been told or found to work well...whether that's right however is another matter lol.

It depends on the glaze though - some leave an acrylic base, and as such don't effect the durability of a sealant layer on top, the main three being Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze II, and Poorboys White Diamond and Black Hole.

The 'traditional' glazes such as those from Clearkote and Megs #7 for example are very oily, so will effect durability, especially of sealants, which won't bond properly to the layer, OR will dissolve the layer of glaze, so the combination either won't work or is wasted.

Without wanting to complicate matters too much, I'd suggest that Blackhole followed by Nattys would improve the looks a little (it contains fillers too, so will hide any swirling quite well too), but if you want better durability, you need to rethink, and perhaps add in their EXP sealant before the Nattys, then top up with Nattys every 3-4 weeks.

PMSL just seen the location change. I'm up in your neck of the woods this weekend actually...

*Avoiding jokes about offering you a glaze.

Sounds good matey, I've got a 20v Coupe to detail on Sunday so it'll probably be Saturday. I'll drop you a line anyway.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, I wash with Meguirs Gold Shampoo and I currently use AGlym Super resin polish say once a month with the Extra Gloss Protection.
Then I use either meguirs 'Quick detailer spray' or 'The Nxt generation Tech Wax' say every other week after a wash.

Thats not overdoing my paint is it!?
Could I combine those products i.e AG SRP / GP then Nxt wax in one wash?!
Thanks

No that is fine lad. Wash, clay, SRP, EGP, bit 'o' wax. Top up every so often. Don't need to do the full works every wash. Do the above once, top up each month, do it all again after about 6 months.

You don't really need to polish each time you wash as doing so removes a layer of clear coat each time, although by hand it's not a great deal compared to machine polishing. If you clay, polish, seal and wax a couple of times a year you'll only need to top up the wax on your washes in between. I'd buy some real wax though.

You're best bet would be to read the guide on detailing first as that covers the basics.

The meguirs stuff is about £14 last a little while and the results are OK for such an easy to use product.
'real wax' is just quite dear isn't it. £30+
I really want to clay soon, but scared of damaging the paint.

  Monaco 172 (02)
The only problem I find is that sometimes I can still see polish swirl marks.
I assume Im putting too much EGP on?! its like water though.

No, they are swirl marks in the paint. Machine polishing is the best way to get rid of those marks.
