CV joint?

Just a query what the hell is that? lol Car went to be checked for MOT today, needs new CV joint, ball joints, 2 new tyres and a bulb went after I checked em all yesterday, lucky I had a full set for the front in my boot so the guy is fitting those 4 me. :S

Its a universal type joint, one on each end of the each driveshaft before it goes inot hub/diff
