Damn MOT time - 172 cup

  Clio 197
Go a call yesterday to say my cup had failed the MOT becuase the brake load sensing linkage was missing from the rear...bells began to rang as i immediately thought of the threads i had read on here in the past about a similar issue..a quick check of my phone and this confirmed it...anyway went to pick the car up and he said it needs one in order to pass MOT.

Cut a long story short, i have got a copy of the 2006 VOSA bulletin which specifically identifies my car by VIN number and this issue with MOTs and cups failing for this. I plan to visit the garage on my way home to see what they say when i show them it, they are a sound bunch of lads however i cant help but think this isnt going to be a straightforward conversation haha.

Since the introduction of the computerised MOT system why are things like this NOT picked up by MOT stations? Or do VOSA rely on MOT places to read every bulletin and commit the contents to memory?

Had this problem when I first bought my Cup failed on the rear brakes. The tester did know about the Cup's lack of lever on the sensor but he did say there should be some measurable effort on the brake discs. I changed the rear discs, pads and new brake fluid and went for the retest, the tester was happy that some effort went into the rear brakes and the handbrake held ok, so passed it.

The garage I used didn't believe that the print-out was real.
They also thought my car was a 1.4.
Jokers.

lucky boy, usually it's hassle to get it passed after failing on brake efficiency.

the computerised mot system should tell the tester about the rear brakes. when the garage showed me their mot paperwork it had some comments about the rear brakes and load sensor.

they don't, some cars (as mr lemon knows) have various "special" items listed on the MOT system, such as Aston AMV8 - do not test on brake rollers as it will destroy the diff

there's something mentioned on the testers paperwork about the cup and its dodgy brakes, i remember them showing me a couple of weeks ago. dont remember if it was the linkage or rear brake efficiency
