Dash removal

Just the read the guide on how to remove the dash, is it that easy and does it all go back together ok? i presume its the only way i am going to connect my alpine stalk adaptor to the clock? doesnt anyone do one that plugs straight into the socket aready there for the remote that went into my old H/U?

P.s. on the alpine stalk adapter i have got, there is a wire saying remote turn on, this may sound stupid but whats it for? and do i need to connect it? if so how?

Thanks in advance

Dave

to take the dash off, it is simple, but tricky!!! there arent as many screws that need to come off as the manual says, the 2 under the steering coloum dont need to come off, the top clips off, so skip those.

But u may find tha you will need to weight downwards on the passenger air bag part of the dash while you pull the dash toward the back of the car, as there is a huge clip thats really hard to get past with only one person,

you should be able to figure it out, if you have problems you can PM me.

Where did you get the stalk adaptor from? how much?

the remote turn on, should be linked to the remote turn on of the HU, or any other power out from the HU eg a power antena power out, just so the adaptor gets power, but only when the hu is on, yes this has to be connected, and if you have an amp as well, you will have to plug the remote on into the stalk adaptor, then the lead from the amp into the remote on out from the stalk adaport again - if that makes sence!!

Yeah getting it off aint the hard bit.

Remember to do it with enough time b4 it gets dark. Me and woodleadam had a frigging nightmare gettin his dash back on in the pick black. We foind the " Line it up and smash F**k" out of it technique worked the best. The main issue is the bas**rd clips on either side. Defo a 2 person jobby.

Done it today the alpine stalk adaptor works fantstice every button is the same and it is really responsive, got my adaptor direct from alpine through the account at work!

Thanks for all the help!

Hmmm you obviously dont have mp3 then! You cant skip back a track, only forwards! Damn annoying!

yer i do mate and you are rite same on cd aswell the thing i cant work out is on radio you can skip forward and backwards for your presets:confused:

For CD, cant you use the roller thingy?

For MP3, that changes folder, not track. The button on the bottom of the remote does the track selection on mine. If I want to reverse, I have to go down a folder and then forward X number of tracks! Much easier to just lean over and click rewind on the HU itself ;-)

Mate go invest in a circuit tester.

then swap the wires round in the white interface cable until you get what you want it to do.

thats the thing... I dont think you can invent buttons can you? There is one that appears to not do anything when in MP3 mode. I dont see why they couldnt have used that for rewind!

For CD, its all ok, as is it for radio. I dont think the circuit tester would be much good therefore. Its probably part of the logic inside the actual interface unit and how the HU interprets the signals it sends.

Of course if youve done you one...perhaps you can tell me how you did it!

Oh no, hang on....youve got (had?) the 60w - pre mp3 days - alpine havent you... bummer.

My stalk adapter aint perfect, some of the buttons are swopped round and some dont do sh*t but the volume is fine which is the main thing eh!
