DCI 80 Dynamique alloy size question

Going to see a DCI 80 tonight - bloke has told me one alloy it kerbed to being trashed - looked for cheap alloys and Halfords do a good deal on some 17's with tyres - their fit guide states they will fit with a 3mm spacer on rear ( no biggie) but they state they bodywork needs mods to fit ! cant be right can it? sureley the clio can take 17's ?
Its an 03 plate with 78K for £1800 ish - sounds OK?
