DCI Starting issue...

I've checked the glow plugs and the feed to the glow plugs which all appears to be fine. But from cold (first thing in morning) the car turns over for at least 5 seconds before firing and surrounds me with a ploom of blue smoke lol.

After this it starts on the button no problems. Also the glow plug light on the dash does not show brightly when starting... however it does appear to be on all the time but very very dim.

Any suggestions please people?

You checked your ignition relay?

I was having similar problems with my Dci 65 and got that changed and it fired up perfectly from there onwards.

Mine was just chugging over but wouldnt catch.

But diesel is oil is it not?

What would cause that on start up then?

turbo oil seals check them and the lines.

check the battery for power.

Edde - As stated the car only puffs smoke when it takes a while to start. There is no smoke at all when flooring it or driving. I would have thought any kind of turbo seal problem would become apparent under these driving conditions as well?

Or put another way, the poor starting from cold and puffs of smoke are deffo connected in some way. What ever is causing one, seems to be causing the other as well.

I will check the battery - although with this warm weather, it starts perfectly at the moment.

ive got a 80 bhp clio and have had this problem before in the cold. But honestly dunno what the problem was, and now it doesnt happen soo maybe it could be common...

check the oil breather then

try egr valve there prone to goin on these . iirc that gave similar symtoms . it puts exhaust gases into engine to help start when cold . so would explain why it starts ok when warm . the smoke will be unburnt fuel and then it all burns when car first starts = bit of smoke . Matt
