De cat=rough idle,pls help

Right Ive just brought my first 172 it has a decat pipe fitted which has resulted in the emissions light being perminantley on and more annoyingly it idles very lumpily.it drives fine and never cuts out but I was wondering if there's a further mod that could solve this,or does the decat have to be removed to solve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

My 172 has a silenced decat mate and does the same, tho my light is not on. Do the revs move a little when at a stand still?

Fitting a decat will cause the problems your having, no way to solve them either, only way is to put a standard cat back on

The needle doesn't move at all but I can feel it and hear it if that makes sence

I do have the orig cat but how much performance will I lose?

Yeah mine does the same dood but I've got used to it now. Just feels wired in traffic, like the car's gonna cut out.

My 182 idles fine with a decat. No lights either. How long has the pipe been fitted? May be worth paying for a remap!

I've got a silenced decat and don't have any issues with the idle. I have had a remap from JMS Tuning though, you won't get full benefit without one...

It's been on for bout 3 months,can the standard ecu's be remapped then? (I'm new to these cars )

Yeah standard ecu's can be easily mapped, lots of them out there, generic ones and custom maps, if you loose your cat you will lose maybe 2bhp max, not noticeable at all

Depends what remap you get, generic remap 5bhp, decat 2bhp, filter 1bhp if lucky, max 8bhp

Just so you no all 172 idle extremly lumpy when idleing!!! I asked the same question when I got mine! It's not to do with decat! Mine never changed from cat to decat! You will notice if you drive your car for 30mins then stop it will idle much smoother

You will notice the remap the most, just had a custom map done at rstuning, managed to get another 10bhp if you want to do a remap by youself then look at an rstuner

they idle like s**t as standard, doesnt matter if you have a decat on it or not.
