De handling - Is it legal

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R

I want to take my door handles off, and have a soenoid door popper located under thewing mirror, but i heard a rumour that this is illegal, and you will not pass an mot with this modification done?

Is there any truth to this, as i dont want to get it done and find out that it will fail my mot.

im sure some TVRs have this set up as standard?

many thanks

what about if i just have the solenoids popping off the remote, not on the mirrors? That way there is no need to get in the car without the remote?

what confuses me is this.... whats stopping anyone pressing the button and getting in your car?

call me ignorant, but how can you implement a "lock" as such into the popper?

yep, thats right.

i think its incase you smash it up, you must be able to open the door from the outside.

im sure it works off of the alarm remote, you use the remte to unlock it, then you press the button to pop the door.

if teh cars locked, the popper wont work, same as if the alarm is armed, nothing happens when the door handle is pulled.

dont some other cars have a similar sort of thing, they still have the handle, but instead of pushing a button right in to mechanically open, its sensored and opend by solinoids.

its MOT legal to have the doors pop off the remote. I have no handels inside or out and can only open the doors off buttons in the car or the remote. Plus I have had the car MOtd twice with no problems

My cars booked in for all this work now, but i was just wondering how much its goign to cost me to get door poppers fitted and wired into my clifford remote? any ideas how much?

mine has this and has no problems with an mot, the only thing you need is a manual entry point to the car in case of power faliure. this is why i still have a boot lock in place. the way to get round this if you are removing the boot lock as well, is to wind down you electric windows, if you have them and take out the fuses, so during the mot, they can manually gain entry to the car is there is a power loss. they cannot fail you for doing this!. i would recommend that if you are taking off all locks, to connect up and alternate power source, ie cable to one of your poppers or locking system so that if you need to get in during a battery faliure you can do so without having to break in to your own motor.

Defo llegal, passed my MOT 2 weeks ago!!!

Have it running off my remote and under mirror, only thing is if sum1 holds the button down it will burn the solenoid out!!!

Im sure there must still be a method of entering the car without the solenoid for it to pass a "proper" MOT. I.e. hidden handle under mirror etc.

strictly speaking it must have a mechanical method of entry, ie it cant rely on the battery.

To the guy who said that the anti-hijack feature will prevent entry in the event of an accident, youll find that the doors actually unlock on impact to allow entry.

imo a good idea would be to wire up a soleniod to your remote keyfob to pop the door open (for convenience), but also fit a button into the wing mirror with a mechanism to pull the cable to open the door. Not the cheapest, in terms of fabricating something to do the job, but its the only real way to do it.

money isnt a problem, i just need to kno how much its going to cost so i can get the funds together.

but if i just have a cord u can pull, cant anyone just pull it and open the doors?

cord sounds like a stupid idea, leave the boot lock on and fit buttons under the wing mirrors is thats the case!
