decat required for my mk2 172

hi guys just plain and simply i am wanting a decat for my 172 mk2 i have a blueflame system on at the moment:

where can i get a decat from and at what price?

which are the better ones to get?

how do i remove the light from the dash cos it will probably come on?

cheers thanks

ive got a janspeed one for sale that should fit your exhaust! check the parts section ;)

Decats are just a bit of pipe, so the only possible thing to worry about is it falling apart!

why didnt u get a group buy decat from blueflame too!? thought u was on that group buy? i got myself a decat for mine for £50. they only be about £70 without group buy from there and guaranteed perfect fit to ur cat back.

cheers guys thanks for that i have sent a message to rory about this and see if i can get in on it now woopppsss have you had your decat yet mate and system any good cheers thanks anyone else got opninins on removing the dash light cos i cant be bothered with the light being on especially when driving in dark

theres always one isnt there?! its only an exhaust!!
my cat back been good yeah bit loud tho on motorway but some people like that.
gettin decat in couple of weeks but not fittin it til after mot in sept. sposed to be good tho thats why i bought it.

why are you saying this ali i had a magnex and janspeed on my old 172 cup and this blueflame sounds better looks a superior quality in finish and production and defo defo produces more power to the car without a shadow of doubt!!

The decat or the zorst. The zorst seems ok. But the Decat is Tiny!!!!

I have a janspeed decat - this is what we're talking about arn't we :S

i only ever had std or this blueflame on mine and i had powerflow and magnex on my other cars. can honestly say this is best difference an exhaust has ever made to any of my cars b4. £350 for a full system and decat its a steal.

so ur just on about decat? fair point then i dont know yet so i cant argue cos it not on car yet, but its just a piece of tube isnt it?! and it has to be same length otherwise it wouldnt fit??

more info needed please ali as i have heard the blue flame decats are preet awesome but if you know something buddy please share

Performance de-cats are a waste of time - remove your cat and cut the section out leaving 1" inch of steel pipe at either end ( incase you ever want to weld it back on ) and then measure the length of cat you have cut out. Then fabricate a section of 2" inch steel pipe the same length and weld it in place. You will save a fortune and your car will run better. As for the emissions light - f**k it

oh it'll be reet. wat difference can a few extra millimetres make? (just ask my bird - sorry cudnt resist)

yes but wat about when it comes to MOT?

and if you cant weld, £49 from blueflame... no point using a diameter bigger than the down pipe diameter really is there....

If you get a bigger diameter pipe it sleeves over the other 2 - done loads of em.

MOT - reverse a courtesy car up to the emissions tester. Re-weld your cat back on. Buy another cat and use that as the decat section - when it comes to your MOT swap it round.

lol

lol cheers guys i think i am going to go for the blue flame decat in stainless steel (thats right aint it rory) but i reallyneed to know how you remove the light from the dash so it appears off cheers many thanks

do a homer simpson and put black insulation tape over it. might not even come on u never know.

from what I have read, if you leave it off ecu really dont like it and goes into limp mode - if you connect it, ecu can see an error but is ok as only slightly out (removed gives a larger error hence limp)

well you could just plug the lamda in and hope the light doesnt come on, and if it does you could always take apart the dash and desolder the led. a vehicle electrician could sort that out, but it would be cheaper to have a bash yourself!

tbh i imagine its same principle to the airbag sensors where bridging the gap with a resistor of a certain value should sort it. I shall consult dialogys

not quite, the ecu needs to distinguish between three states...

too much fresh air - "leaving it unplugged causes the engine to go into limp mode"

too much dirty air - "the cat is broken, display the emissions light"

perfect conditions - "sweeet"

im guessing that the amount of resistance varies end to end, from too much dirty air, to too much clean air

some more info on this would be great i dont really car that the light would be one buit i would like the bugger unplugged if need be!!!
