Decat to Standard Cat question??

When you change your decat back to standard cat do you have to have your emissions light reset or does it automatically work out that the emissions are now ok and turn off?

Good question, I have a decat also.

Be interesting to see whether I need to do anything when I put the CAT back on for MOT time.

I'm assuming that it resets its self but..........

Anyone know?

i would imagine it would turn off when you turn the engine off, and not come back on when you start it up? could be wrong though

thanks fred - thought so - any auto electrician with diagnostic software should be ok aint it - renault have a 3 week wait in cardiff!

yeah you just need to find someone with an OBD2 clip reader, most garages have them these days

i did - they told me it should have gone off on its own - had it sorted now - small garage in splott did it for me

would a cheapo obd2 serial/usb lead from ebay work + freeware obd2 monitoring reset sw to clear/reset the emissions light ? (poss even turning ignition with stalk button pressed, scrolling to error code and reset even ??)

Renaults are funny when it comes to resetting the light, we have a snap on scan tool it will reset mine everytime but with meganes and lagunas its a bit hit and miss, the light goes out on some and others it doesnt, the ones it doesnt the light goes out on its own after a bit

Is it not as simple as disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU?

Or removing the bulb behind the dash?

disconnect the ECU wont work

there is no bulb behind the clocks -- LED's soldered on

all the guy that reset mine had was like a palm top computer with a few extra plug ins - he said he downloads various software for it off the net and can do pretty much all cars with it. Would be handy to have if can get it cheap - he charged me £20 for about 2 mins work!

people like vag.com do their own interface and sw but plenty of freeware tools like scantool which are ok to view sensors, check fault codes and reset them.

I built an interface years ago but never got it working with my megane due to the wrong protocol iirc.
