Decent replacement headlight bulbs?

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Hi all,

I have a mk1 172 and now the drive home from work is in the dark i've realised how dim my headlights are, to the extent that it's very hard to drive. Have any of you had this issue? If so what did you fit as replacements? Just looking for some advice as really need brighter headlights. Thanks in advance.

From other cars I found that sometimes it was just the bulbs, but also it was occasionally the wiring. On one car, there was a big improvement from renewing the light's earth to the chassis, and on another a load of new engine/accessory earth looms improved the lights too.

Didn't know the Mk1 didn't have xenons. Learn something every day n all. Anyway:

Osram Nightbreakers.

/Generic reply. But seriously, these get recommended again and again. No idea how they actually compare for width, length, brightness etc but Halfords Super/Ultra-Bright etc definitely are bright and are buy one get one free at the moment I believe?

Osram Nightbreakers/Nighbreaker + are good bulbs. Had the +s in my last car.

thanks for the replies people! Where can i find the lights earth connected to the chassis? I will check this first. Does anyone know anything about HID bulbs? Can these just be installed like normal bulbs or do i need a HID conversion kit? I think the bulbs currently in my car are standard tungsten filament bulbs.

You just buzz-out the connector wires with a multi-meter (digital volt-meter). Eventually you'll be able to find the ground by connecting between a wire & the chassis.
