Declaring Brake Modifications?

Hey,

I'm new to cliosport.net so bear with me and I apologise if this is a stupid question.

I have just purchased a 172 cup, which I am really happy with. It is due new rear pads and new front discs and pads. I have been trying to decide whether to upgrade the pads and discs. I am looking to do track days so obviously an upgrade would be a good idea! The only thing that is stopping me is I am unsure how it will affect my insurance. Does anyone know if I have to declare upgrades such as pads and discs or is it only if i upgrade the whole brake setup? I would check with my insurance company but I have heard that elephant can be funny about mods so I don't want to declare stuff to them unless I have to.

Cheers,
Will

The most recommended setup for brakes (and this is the front brakes btw) is Brembo HC disks, Ferodo DS2500 pads, and braided lines.

I would have thought you wouldnt need to tell the insurance for the first two items, as they look exactly the same as standard, you are just upgrading the disc, it isnt really a mod, same for pads.

Braided lines might be a bit funny, as they are visibly obvious (to someone who knows what they are looking for of course!)

If you just do the pads and discs, you'll be fine, as they are pretty much the same as standard.....but a bit better!

i gave direct line a call about changing to green stuff pads. They said thanks for saying but theyre interested in things which either increase bhp or have substantial cost to replace. Always be safer than sorry.

Thanks for the advice. Don't think I will be adding braided lines to start with as it will be my first track day and so will see if the new disc and pad set up works without new lines. I am only considering the upgrade as I am re-newing the parts anyway.

Does anyone have any recommendations for track day insurance?

Technically you should. If you're worried phone up and see what your company have to say about your proposed mods.

I would guess most people don't tell them about minor mods like grooved discs.
