Demon Tweeks, big deal on Toyo T1R

  200,182 Trophy, Cup
They are competitive on price anyway but doing 4 for price of 3 til Monday. I’ve just ordered a set of 215/40 17s for my lads Polo GT for £178.
Now I know they may not be up to Yoko standard but he doesn’t thrash about, drives 45 miles a day on motorway to work. He has Dunlop sport maxx on at moment which are £120 each !!

Had them for 4 years, never crashed. Went on a trackday with them, not the grippiest of tyre but only lets to when you want it/make it i've found. Very fun tyre and cheap.

Yes guys but what are you doing with them, as just a daily runner tyre I don’t see any major issues. Other car forums don’t seem to have the same negative views

As a daily tyre I suppose they would be alright. They are horrendous with grip when you are taking corners going quickly though.

It’s very strange, Audi, Porsche and Lotus forums all rate them, all 3 of those no doubt pumping far more horses out than your lowly 182 and generally RWD too. Anyway stand by for a future review of them on the 1.4 turbo on the polo.

IIRC they were OEM on TVR at one point - an idea I find utterly bewildering lol

I know tyre choice is personal but I just found the T1-S to roll onto the sidewalls and have literally binary grip - it was there, then there was nothing and I was sliding towards what I was trying to avoid. I'd go as far as calling them dangerous IMHO.

On a dry trackday? Maybe. On the road? Noooooo.

I swapped to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 after those - night and day better. They were so good you could drive in the wet like it was the dry, rather than tiptoeing around to avoid sliding to a fiery death.

They were decent enough, if never class leading except in terms of bang for buck, but that was about fifteen years ago. Ancient design, long surpassed. I’m genuinely mystified that they still have an almost cult following.

I mean, they’re not lethal or anything but they’re still treated like the second coming of Christ on some forums when actually they were never anything better than a cheaper-but-not-quite-as-good alternative to the Goodyear Eagle F1 back in the days before Goodyear launched the asymmetric version.

I guess it’s because they were a bit of a performance bargain back in the day and they’ve still got that halo.

By 'not-quite-as-good' you mean '10%-as-good'? lol

I ran both - T1-S then GS-D2 - the GS-D2 were insanely good in the wet, you really could just drive like it was dry. The T1-S were an accident waiting to happen!

Have had them. They're awful in the wet. Honestly choose not to listen, but drive them back to back with an actual tyre with rubber and grip and things and you'll see that the difference is night and day.

T1-S was a far worse tyre than the T1-R to be fair to the R, the R was a good tyre for the price although not great in the wet, or the cold. I used them with no real complaints, but like I say it was a very, very long time ago.

The Eagle F1 peed all over them by comparison, and that’s the old GSD3 we’re talking about.

I’m no hater of the T1-R though, they did a decent enough job on my old T5. Didn’t last long, but then no tyres ever did on that especially after the remap....

I had Nexen N2000s on my 1.2, they were a budget tyre. I actually had a noticeable drop in grip when I changed to T1Rs.

I miss the Nexens. The tread pattern was dead sexy.
