i just thought i can take it back to renault if i have any problems. i was quoted £200 for clutch in a back street garage.. picked it up and the bill was just over £400. the returned the car with a smashed TDC sensor and tried to tell my cambelt had slipped :-/ cant be bothered with the hassel, so renault it is.. this £800 172 is turning out to be expensive

You can take it back to any garage if you have problems, you wont have a problem with any specialist on here it will be done right first time

i would goto birchdown or others that are on here, you will get a 12 month parts/warranty like you would with Renault.

Mine was £400 less than that from Rentech.

Give Birchdown a call mate. It'll be a better job, cost you a lot less and in the unlikely event you do get a problem, that's where I'd rather go back to.

As said, cancel asap and get to a specialst, will be the same quality if not better and much cheaper

Renault Liverpool quoted me £400 to fit my cambelt and aux belt and that was with me supplying the parts too! Avoid at all costs! Birchdown is where my car goes now, fantastic guys and you know they will do a good job! :D your insane if you pay that price..

Where abouts in Liverpool are ya?

There's quite a lot of work there... don't know how much the traders value all that work, but its got to be about £750 - £800 at least? So £1071 at a main dealer isn't criminal, but it's still more expensive than it needs to be.

Just did a quick from memory quote and it comes out at over £800 from me if you need the tdc sensor too. Not shocked by that renault price tbh, they have bigger overheads so charge a higher hourly rate. You should still be going to birchdown though

I agree, that's a fair bit of work indeed and £1071 for a Renault franchise to do it all using genuine parts, not after market, isn't bad at all... as a comparison i've just worked out my price for that little lot and it is £665 less the 12k service (which is another £90 so £755 all in). Still, if you're happy then that's all that matters as you know if there's anything wrong or something you're not happy with you can take it back and piece of mind is worth a lot! I bet they find other items on the free "health check" though.

Unless you're paid £400 a day at work, taking a day off/working from home/taking a days holiday would have been more financially viable.

But yeah, congrats on your evident financial skills.

Take it from someone who had a nightmare with cambelt servicing. Go to someone who knows what they are doing!!!!! Dealers **** these up, it's been seen time and time again. Plus saving a bit of cash is always a bonus.

plenty of experience here thats why. Type "cambelt" or "dephaser" in the CS search engine and the computer will explode ;)

whew.. some of you guys take this to heart..

It's not that we take it to heart, it's just that we've seen it a million times before.

Endless people coming back with "issues" etc.

Specialists are widely used on here for a reason, because they're the best men to do the job, not to mention actually being cheaper than Renault!

Renault Liverpool charged me twice for the pollen filter on both services on my 172, I then moved south and took the car into Renault Woking one summer as the cabin was stinking, as you can guess the pollen filter they removed was the original that came with the car.

I don't know why you think Renault will do a better job.

Last time I took my Clio into Renault I was told "they don't do a 172, Mate, it's a 182"
