Dephaser making a car slow?

A friends 182 (that i'm borrowing at the moment) seems slower than the last few i've had.

He's had it from new and it has never missed a service etc.

just before xmas he had the cambelt kit and auxbelt kit fitted by his mate.

Could it be cam timing? Could it be the dephaser? The dephaser is just starting to show signs of rattling. Thats why i've got it, because he wants me to diagnose it.

Dephaser doesn't really start effecting anything until it's really knackered. I had one that was at that state and it didn't really make the car slow, just caused flat spots in acceleration.

My phase 1 (your old one) felt slow comapred to the phase 2 i had. Timing was out so only had 140bhp

Could be anything really though. I've had my cup's belts and dephaser done @ Birchdown so I can be assured the timing is bob on. I do really think that it's not as snappy as my last ph1 172 though, I might just be getting old and boring though and not liking to thrash it as much as I did in the phase 1's I had. Just seems a lot more hard work to rag it! CBA!
