Hi everyone
I have a 182 Cup and it has the common dephaser noise/ problem - slight rattle on start up, no noise while the engine comes up to temperature and then the dreaded rattle and whirring, which disappears as the revs rise above 2500rpm. It's not as bad as some I've heard posted on youtube (diesel clatter), but I wondered if the dephaser solenoid is also at fault. There is a little oil leak from what looks like the black seal surrounding the metal body of the solenoid. What would be the symptoms of a faulty solenoid? Would a faulty solenoid cause premature wear of the dephaser? Can I remove it to check/clean and replace its oil seal without dismantling the engine or affecting the valve timing, i.e., will it just pull out once I've removed its bolt?
This site is a great source of information, so I hope someone can help.
Many thanks
