Dephaser??

Hey just wanting to know what the symptoms are of your dephaser starting to go my 172 has a strange noise when under load at 1800 rpm the belts were done 27000 miles ago at Renault bug this was before my ownership so just wondering if its time to replace it again its somthing iv never heard on any of my clios it's a tick

Ok not the noise I'm getting going to do the belts dephaser and water pump to be safe anything else I should change while I'm in there??

you don't need to re place the water pump tbh as its only driven off of the aux belt.

I wouldn't rule this out.

When I bought my Cup I thought the noise was the Dephaser but it was actually the Waterpump. Best to have them both changed whilst the belt etc is getting done, it's only a extra £80 or something.

Change water pump whilst you are there! yep its only auxbelt driven but they seem to be failing quite alot lately.

Oh ok fair enough, i was told by Fred that they dont need replacing when i did my belt (it was 3 years ago) was going to but he said the water pumps on these engines go on for ever

Yeah would be doing the pump for piece if mind had a strange one today phoned my local renault dealer for a price on getting the work done only to be told my car doesn't have a dephaser ?? Surely that's an error on there computer system? Or we're there some f4r engines without them?
