Detailing Help :(

I would class myself as a car cleaner enthusiast but not a detailer. Yet. And now I want to take it to the next step and be able to do a 2 day detail on the car.

But heres my problem.. Im lost in it all. Theres so many procedures and processes i dont know where to begin. So i've joined DW and still waiting to have my account activated so I thought I would ask on here.

I've read up on cleaning the car (two bucket method), claying and even machine polishing. All that stuff I am okay with. Its more about waxes, surface cleaners, sealants all that malarkey.

I'm on I4detailing now looking to purchase everything I just don't know what to buy....

I know you might be thinking what the f**k is he on about... But seriously... help. Lol

Don't confuse yourself with all the products out there.

I have my "core" products and polishes, and i might occasionally venture out into something different from time to time. For example my first set of polishes i bought were menzerna - I always use these, but I also use dodo juice sometimes.

In short, you can read up on s**t all you want but unless you try the product first hand you can't really make a decision on what you think about it

Thats just it mate im going to be spending alot of money on my core products but dont want to waste my money on crap... Do you have a routine like

snow foam
wash
dry
clay
wash
dry
Machine polish
wax

Is there anything im missing? Products you'd recommend? Especially a wet look wax?

Have you read dave KG's guide on detailingworld pal? If not - read it. Good starting point with regards to everything you are asking.

It's a lengthy read but really useful.

If your this new to it then I would say forget DW and even I4D at the moment. Get down Halfords and buy:

Wash mitt
2 x buckets
pack of microfibre cloths
drying towel
Autoglym (AG) Body Wash
AG Super Resin Polish
AG Extra Gloss Protection

Once you have got used to these you will start identifying weak links in you detailing chain, then you can start getting suggestions for better alternatives and start buying better quality stuff from places like I4D. The reason I say do it like this is because detailing is personal, and what is a weak product for you, may not be for others, and vice versa.

This process i can do and have done for the last few years and highly recommend the gloss protection as it gives a great wet look. But now i want to start correcting the damage on the clio and then doing my best at protecting it.

I do think it is very much a live and learn process. I was just after a few good rated products.

this the right process: (black paint)

wet
snowfoam
rinse
shampoo
rinse
clay (if required)
rinse
SRP
Glaze (poor boys black hole - sounds good to me) OR Sealant (Chem guys mirror finish? or dodo red mist)
Wax ( collinite,poor boys or R222 havnt decided yet)

sound good?

On black id go for poorboys black hole then your wax.

Red mist isnt a sealent that goes on before wax..its a protection detailer that goes on after waxing

edit oh and if it were me id add a shampoo after your clay process.

As above, your "or this or this" comment isn't quite right chap.

Glaze is a little bit like a polish, but with zero cut and lots of fillers. In my mind, therefore, you are wasting your time with SRP. But each to their own

So when i got home from work there was a large parcel on my bed.

Opened it up and removed the contents

And now everything boxed ready for my first proper detail.

Im not too sure about those wheel brushes though. I find when pulling it out from the wheel the bristles flick back and cover you in all the s**t! Plus my end cap broke on mine after a little while

Seems as im new to the scene and the whole point of the thread is for advice/help could you recommend me two better replacements please. Poor boys wheel sealant ive heard is good? Also the car is Mondial (sp) blue for the wax.
