Diffence between: coilovers, lowering springs and suspension kits

  Golf R soon...
Whats the diffence between coilovers, lowering springs and suspension kits?

I want to lower my car at least 40mm all round and would like the compromise between quality and price.

think it just comes down to how you use the car, and want to use the car.

if u just want it for asphetics, then springs are a cheap option.

if you want to be taking it round track and drive fast, and enjoy pushing limits then coilys.

im sure someone can give you a more detailed/technical answer though

Lowering springs are the cheapest. ride isn't ideal
New shocks and springs is better but the springs are still hard as they need to be to get the lower ride height
Coilovers are the ideal since they are desinged for the job realy and better made and desinged.

Spot on.

Also the lower down in the list you get the more expensive it gets....

Most people sufice on just springs. As its easy to do and cheap to get insured. Normally the drop isnt that low either. Roughly 40-60mm on Clios.

Would love the coilovers but its the price that is putting me off!

I don't want to much the handling up.

Whats the cheapest coilovers on the market? I heard FK's were good.

Whats insurance like with coilovers?

I'll give them a ring tomorrow!

What should I say to them, "I would like a quote on lowering my car" or "I have some coilovers I would like to fit"

Wasn't sure what to get for lowering my car, spent so long thinking about it I had saved enough for coilovers :star:

Ring up your insurance company and ask them how much it wil cost to lower the suspension of your car.
It took a lot of explaining to the girl on the phone when I rang up and said "I'd like to lower my car, how will it affect my premium?" - she thought I meant the value of the car :clown:

With Quinn Direct al I had to do was get an engineers report form signed by an approved mechanic (to state that the car was legaly fit for the road) and post it - no extra charge :approve:

Cheers for that Tigger :)

Got a day off tomorrow and will phone the insurance company up, Elephant in my case, see what they say.

I have the money for coilovers just a little hesitant at spending it!

I dont want to spend more than £450

with coliovers dont have to get your car setup as well, not as simple as fitting them and then good to go ???

the former is the only thing stopping me from getting coilovers.

You have to get them setup properly otherwise you'll get excessive tyre wear
